GREENVILLE, South Carolina – Alabama women's basketball is coming on strong in the Southeastern Conference Women's Basketball Tournament. After knocking off the Vanderbilt Commodores earlier in the week, the Crimson Tide disposed of the other Tennessee school quite handily, defeating the Volunteers 72-63 in the second round of play at Bon Secours Wellness Arena on Thursday. UA used a big second half, outscoring Tennessee by 15, to advance now to the third round of the tournament. UA now moves to 19-12 overall on the season, while the loss puts the Vols at 19-11.

The Tide now faces the fourth-seed Kentucky Wildcats in the quarterfinals. This will be the Bama women's first appearance in the SEC tournament quarterfinals since 2005, plus the 19 wins are also the most UA has had in a season since the 2001-02 campaign.

University of Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kristy Curry said, "I'm just really proud of our team today. I thought that our energy and effort is something that's always within our control. I knew at halftime and told them if we could hold them to 29 the second half, we weren't going to shoot it as bad as we did the first half. Thankfully we made some shots, had confidence in each huddle and had some balance offensively."

A total of five Tide players finished in double-figures in points scored, led by junior Meoshonti Knight pumping in 16. Also in double-figures were sophomore Shaquera Wade with 12, while junior Ashley Williams and freshmen Ashley Knight and Jordan Lewis all contributed another 10 points each. Leading the team in rebounding was Ashley Knight with 11 rebounds for her second double-double, in addition to six blocks, while Lewis tied her career-best in assists with eight.

Coach Curry added, "Ashley (Knight) really learned a lot from the first experience with Tennessee/ She really took some things to heart and came out and did a great job. Meo (Knight) had a tremendous day."

Overall the Tide shot 42.4 percent (25-59), while Tennessee finished at 35.8 percent (24-67) from the floor. Alabama outrebounded Tennessee 44-31, and outscored the Lady Vols 15-7 in second chance points.

Former Alabama Swimming & Diving Team's
Stacy Potter Inman Honored As SEC Women's Legend

Alabama's Stacy Potter Inman & SEC Commisioner Greg Sankey

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - She has been a legend to the University of Alabama swimming & diving program, and now former UA student-athlete and All-American Stacy Potter (Inman) has been recognized as such by the Southeastern Conference. Potter-Inman has been officially honored as a Southeastern Conference Women's Legend

Inman was honored during halftime of the Alabama first round victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores during the SEC Women's Basketball Tournament being held in Greenville, South Carolina. She was presented the honor by SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey.

Inman expressed surprise concerning the phone call she received about the honor more than 20 years after her last race for the Crimson Tide. "I couldn't fathom it," Inman said. "It wasn't something I ever thought of as a possibility."

Each of the 14 Southeastern Conference member schools has a legend in Greenville this week. Besides being honored during halftime of an SEC Tournament game, the group will also be honored during a banquet. They will all also participate in an autograph session during the tournament.

UA swimming and diving head coach Dennis Pursley said, "This is a tremendous honor for our program. Stacy is one of the all-time greats, helping lead this program to national recognition in the 1990s. The marks she posted during her career still rank among our all-time top 10 all these years later. We're very proud of what she accomplished, and to have her represent us as an SEC Legend."

Inman originally hails from Americus, Georgia, and played for the University of Alabama, and was the Tide's most valuable performer in 1993, 1994 and 1995. She helped to lead Alabama to back-to-back top-10 national finishes in 1993 and 1994 and a top-15 finish in 1995.

Crimson Tide associate head coach Jonty Skinner, who coached Inman back in the 90s, commented, "Stacy was always a hard, hard worker. I remember I'd have to lock the weight room before meets just so she'd get some rest."

Skinner bragged on Inman's hard work back during her years at The Capstone. He said that, as well as toughness, was responsible for her phenomenal success at the NCAA Championships.

Skinner continued, "Every year she'd swim the 100 backstroke and the 100 butterfly on the second day of NCAAs. I don't care who you are, that's a tough double, and yet she made the big final in both events three years in a row."

Inman said, "My favorite memories came from the SEC Championships. Each year, we'd all come together, the men's and the women's teams, for that meet. It was such a great time for me. We'd come together and compete for each other, and that was especially true with the relays. Even now, when I'm watching the Olympics, that's my favorite part, the relays and the teamwork that goes into it."

Inman is Alabama swimming and diving's "Swimmer of the 1990s," and completed her career at Alabama as a 22-time All-American. She broke the SEC record in the 100 butterfly, and was the 1995 NCAA Runner-up in the 100 butterfly. Her school record in the 100 backstroke stood for 20 years, from 1994 to 2014.

Inman is married to Jason, and have three children. Their family currently resides in Pottsboro, Texas, where she teaches first grade. She continues to work out regularly, a routine that included regular trips to the pool until the last few years when time became a factor.

"I just don't have the time to get to the pool each week," Inman said. "But when I did, I would think about swimming at Alabama, and even now, when I'm thinking about form and technique while I'm working out, it can take me back."

Congratulations, Stacy Potter Inman. You are a true Alabama and Southeastern Conference legend.
