TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – Despite a 90-minute rain delay to start the game, the University of Alabama softball team shut out Loyola Chicago 5-0 by scoring in five of the six innings at-bat and earning its 20th win of the season.

The Crimson Tide (20-2) dominated the Tuesday contest, while Loyola-Chicago (14-1) struggled to even make a hit against Crimson Tide starter Alexis Osorio (10-1), who struck out 18 and allowed just one lone hit in the complete-game shutout. This is now Osorio's third game of the season with at least 18 strikeouts. She now holds three of the five such performances in Alabama softball history. Offensively, six of Bama's nine starters got a hit, with Peyton Grantham leading the way  going two-for-two in the contest. She had one RBI on the evening.

Chandler Dare was one-for-three on the night, with one run to her credit. Bailey Hemphill was one-for-two with one run, one RBI. Marisa Runyun was one-for-three with one run, one RBI.

UA softball head coach Patrick Murphy said, "I thought everyone handled the rain delay well. Alexis [Osorio] really respected the opponent and came out with her best stuff. Eighteen strikeouts, I'm really proud of her.

"I was hoping for a couple more crooked numbers on the scoreboard but we scored in five of the six innings. We had people on and it was a good win."

Bama next hosts Valparaiso this evening at 6 p.m. CT at Rhoads Stadium. Following that, the Tide will begin SEC play this weekend against Arkansas at Rhoads Stadium. Game one is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. CT this Friday, March 10th.

Checking The 2018 College Football Odds

It really comes as no surprise. Take a look at "pre-pre-season polls" (those being the polls out so early they don't really count) and you usually find the University of Alabama Crimson Tide at the top...at least in the past several years. However you also usually find Bama sitting at the top throughout much of the season as well.

So, what about this year?

Instead of a poll, let's take a look at what Vegas has to say. In this case, let's check the odds for 2018 according to the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook.
