Clear Bag Policy Instituted By SEC
For All Football Games Beginning This Season

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – The Southeastern Conference will implement a new security policy in the interest of enhancing existing security measures at games involving SEC member schools. The conference will implement a new security policy regulating the size and type of bag that may be carried into all stadiums in which SEC schools host games, beginning with the 2017 football season. The announcement came from the SEC office on Wednesday.

Alabama and some of the other Southeastern Conference schools had already begun implementation of their own clear bag policy, but now the new conference-wide bag policy will be in effect beginning with the 2017 football season. The policy was approved by a unanimous vote of the league's athletics directors.

Southeastern Conference commissioner Greg Sankey said, "SEC football stadiums are among the largest venues in the world of sports, so safety and security are issues that must always remain a priority for our events We believe this policy is an important enhancement to the security measures already put in place by our institutions."

Fans are encouraged not to bring any types of bags inside SEC stadiums during football games; however, the following outlines bags that are permitted:
  • Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12";
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc bag or similar); and
  • Small clutch bags, with or without a handle or strap, that do not exceed 4.5" x 6.5" (approximately the size of a hand).
  • An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at a gate designated for this purpose.

An approved logo no larger than 4.5" x 3.4" may be displayed on one side of a permissible clear bag.
Prohibited bags include, but are not limited to: purses larger than a clutch bag; briefcases; backpacks, cinch bags, and fanny packs that are not clear and/or exceed the size restriction; luggage of any kind; computer bags/cases; camera bags/cases; binocular bags/cases or any bag larger than the permissible size.

Fans will continue to be able to carry items allowed into the stadium in a permissible clear bag, such as binoculars and cameras.

This policy pertains to bags and is not an all-inclusive list of items that are prohibited from being taken into the stadium. Therefore, fans should be aware of specific institutional policies regarding prohibited items that may not be brought into that institution's stadium.

Former UA Receiver Antonio Carter
Files Lawsuit Against Lane Kiffin & State Of Florida

According to a report from SEC Country, former Alabama Crimson Tide receiver Antonio Carter has filed a lawsuit against former University of Alabama offensive coordinator and current FAU head coach Lane Kiffin and the state of Florida. In the suit, Carter alleges that Kiffin led him to believe that he was in line for a job on the FAU football staff as an assistant strength and conditioning coach, but then later informed Carter he was disqualified from consideration for the position after offering a scholarship to a recruit whom Carter had helped Kiffin obtain.

According to SEC Country:

However, after believing he had been hired and the prospect accepted a scholarship with the Owls, Carter was notified by school officials that he didn’t pass the required background check and would not be employed “due to two prior minor misdemeanor criminal charges.”
Carter claims in the lawsuit that he sent documentation showing the resolution of the charges, one of which the prosecutor refused to pursue more than seven years ago, but FAU didn’t respond and numerous other inquiries went unanswered. That included waiting for hours outside of Patrick Chun’s office only to have the FAU athletic director refuse to meet with him.
Also, according to SEC Country, the lawsuit also alleges that Kiffin told Carter his hire was a "done" deal, and supposedly was so "done" that Carter even assisted FAU on signing day.

USA Today is reporting that court records are indicating four arrests, rather than two, for Carter and that he "took pleas in each case and avoided jail time. Two were concerning drug paraphernalia, with one being possession and the other failure to appear on a drug charge. The other two dealt with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended or revoked license in 2014, with one of those by the Florida Highway Patrol and the other by Florida State University police.

The aforementioned recruit whom Carter says he "believed" he was used in recruiting is not mentioned directly in suit, but SEC Country  strongly believes him to be D'Anfernee McGriff who played at Iowa Western Community College in 2016. He did, in fact, sign with FAU on National Signing Day.

Among the schools for which Carter has previously held coaching are Appalachian State, Eastern Michigan and Samford.
