TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - The University of Alabama football team got in another couple of hours of work in full pads on Wednesday afternoon at the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields on the UA campus.

Prep work includes, of course, all aspects of the game, but now the Tide is working to refine its game specific to the Ole Miss Rebels. The Rebs holds the distinction of being one of the top-ranked offensive units in the Southeastern Conference. Bama is looking to shut down this UM offense as it did this past Saturday with the Vanderbilt Commodores.

UA outside linebacker Jamey Mosley was not present at practice for the second consecutive day.

Freshman Dylan Moses has a new jersey number. Again. He's gone from 7 to 8 and now will be sporting the number 18.

Alabama and Mississippi with face off  this Saturday, September 30th at Bryant-Denny Stadium with an 8:00 p.m CT kickoff scheduled. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN with Joe Tessitore, Todd Blackledge and Holly Rowe handing the call.

The Crimson Tide will be back at practice this afternoon, then wrap it up on Friday. This will be the 65th meeting between the two SEC foes, with Alabama holding a 48-11-2 advantage.

Ole Miss Interim Coach Laughs
About Alabama Rout Of Vanderbilt

The weekly Southeastern Conference conference call was held to the guffaws of Ole Miss football interim coach Matt Luke. The long and loud laughter came before the reporter talking with Luke could even get the complete question out.

Finally gaining composure, Luke answered the reporter's question about University of Alabama football. He commented concerning his thoughts about the Crimson Tide, "They're good. Very, very impressed. Very impressed with their stable of running backs and how cool under pressure [Tide quarterback] Jalen Hurts is and they got two really, really fast wide receivers that you can't just wholesale out to the run. And on defense, I was excited they lost [seven] guys to the NFL, and then you turn the table and it doesn't reflect that. They just kind of reloaded. Just been very impressed. They're a great team and they're No. 1 in the country for a reason.

When the reporter asked Luke if Ole Miss would call out Alabama like Vanderbilt defensive lineman Nifae Lealao did, the coach responded, "No. I think our guys have a great amount of respect for Alabama and what they have been able to do, their consistency. But I think they are also excited for the challenge and just having the opportunity to go compete on that stage and just kind of lay it on the line and see what happens."

Alabama and Ole Miss will meet this Saturday for the 65th time at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m. CT, with the contest being broadcast live on ESPN.

Internal Review Of Alabama Men's Basketball
Results In Resignation Of Staffer Kobie Baker

Kobie Baker

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - The University of Alabama announced on Wednesday an internal review of its men's basketball program. One of the results of that review was the immediate resignation of Crimson Tide basketball staffer Kobie Baker, according to UA Director of Athletics Greg Byrne.
In a prepared statement, Byrne said, "Following [Tuesday's] reports from New York regarding a Federal investigation of intercollegiate athletics, The University of Alabama Department of Athletics immediately initiated an internal review of our men’s basketball operations. As a result, we have accepted the resignation effective today of Kobie Baker, a men's basketball administrator.
"Our review has not identified any NCAA or SEC rules violations nor the involvement of any other coach or staff member. We have notified both of the governing bodies of the actions we have taken. As always, we will continue to be proactive in our compliance efforts."
Per his online bio, Baker oversaw all areas of Alabama's basketball administration, including salaries and benefits, operating expenses, team travel, donor relations, fundraising and scheduling non-conference opponents. He also served as the "liaison for men’s basketball to the SEC office, compliance services and student-athlete support services."
Baker's previous job was the Assistant Director of Enforcement for Basketball Development at the NCAA. Prior to that he served as an Associate Director of Amateurism Certification at the NCAA.
Alabama head men's basketball coach Avery Johnson was asked about the FBI investigation of college basketball recruiting practices and commented, "It's pretty interesting, but I don't have any comments about it. I don't know the details or the ins or outs of what happened. It's not my place to make a comment on it. But obviously when I saw the news, I was taken aback."

It is reported that Baker had more than one meeting concerning the matter.

Former Alabama QB Leaves Yet Another Program

Former UA QB David Cornwell

It appears that former University of Alabama quarterback David Cornwell can't seem to find the right fit. Cornwell has departed yet another football program, leaving Nevada just four games into the season, according to Chris Murray of the Reno-Gazette Journal, a local newspaper.
Cornwell was a former four-star recruit in the class of 2014, choosing to commit and play for the Crimson Tide, but then transferred to the Wolf  Pack program following the Bama's 2016-17 season after true freshman Jalen Hurts took the starting quarterback job.
Just this past Saturday Cornwell made his first career start for Nevada against Washington State, but was only able to produce just 97 yards passing yards while tossing three interceptions in the 45-7 loss. With that loss Nevada fell to 0-4 on the season. As of the beginning of this week, Cornwell was listed as third on the depth chart.
Cornwell never even attempted a pass in the two games in which he was able to participate while at Alabama

Crimson Tide Soccer Falls To 6th-Ranked Gators

GAINESVILLE, Florida – It was a disappointing Sunday for the 24th-ranked University of Alabama women's soccer team, falling to the sixth-ranked Florida Gators 3-0 at James G. Pressly Stadium in Gainesville. Alabama (8-3-1) now drops to 0-2-1 in Southeastern Conference play while the Gators (8-2, 2-1 SEC) add victory number two to the conference slate.

Alabama soccer head coach Wes Hart said, "Disappointing result. We came here trying to take three points away. I felt we played well in the first half. Going into the locker room, we were confident that we could win this game. We had more possessions, territory and chances, but UF came out in the second half with some energy and put us on our heels. The early goals gave them even more lift. I was proud of the way our team kept competing. We must now focus our attention on Tennessee. We can't let these past few results get us down. We played two top-10 teams very tough on the road."

It was Bama junior Abbie Boswell leading the Crimson Tide in shots with three and one on goal, while both Jimenez Delgado and senior Alexis Mouton took two shots apiece. Stratton made five saves in the net.

UA will host No. 21 Tennessee at the Alabama Soccer Complex on Thursday, September 28th. Start time for the match is at 6 p.m. CT. Thursday's SEC match will be broadcasted live on SEC Network.

What Vandy Had To Say After
Saturday's Loss To Top-Ranked Alabama

No doubt most of the nation, including Vandy fans, saw the 59-0 shellacking the Alabama Crimson Tide gave the Vanderbilt Commodores as humiliating. So what did players and the head coach have to say when it was over and the team was able to swim to shore.

Vandy head coach Derek Mason said, "Credit Alabama. Alabama is exactly what we thought they were going into the game. They're great defensively, they're well-coached, and they're physical. We got in a hole early and it snowballed on us. We struggled offensively and defensively on third downs. We struggled to get third downs on offense and struggled to get off the field on third downs on defense. ... We were out-coached. We looked like a tired team at the end. ... We got out-classed. ... We have to go back to work now. I'm more concerned about our response and making sure one doesn't become two."

On how to keep one loss from turning into two, Vandy safety Ryan White said, "It is simple. We just have to get back to work when we get back on the practice field. Just have to send a message to everybody so they know it was only one game and it doesn't define our season. So we just have to bounce back and get back to work."

Concerning the difficulty in trying to contain the Alabama rushing attack, Commodore safety Emmanuel Smith said, "It was difficult. We practiced for it and planned for it. But at the same time, they had a better ball team than we did today. They came out and showed it on the field."

Captures FedEx Cup on Sunday

Justin Thomas

Former University of Alabama golfer Justin Thomas yesterday captured the FedEx Cup, the PGA Tour's championship trophy, as well as the $10 million paycheck bonus that comes with it. Though he didn't win the Tour Championship at East Lake Club in Atlanta, his second-place finish was enough to vault him over Jordan Spieth for the top spot in the final point standings. Spieth didn't win on Sunday, however, and his tie for seventh-place yesterday allowed Thomas' second place to to give the PGA championship and FedEx Cup to Thomas.
Xander Schauffele captured the tournament win on Sunday when he hit a 3-foot birdie putt on the final hole for a 2-under-par 68 for the round and a 12-under 268 overall to edge out Thomas by just one stroke. for the tournament to beat Thomas by one stroke. Thomas shot a 4-under 66 in the final round.
It was in January that Thomas won his first of five tournaments of the season, including his first major title at the PGA championship. He carded the lowest 72-hole score in PGA Tour history in that first tournament, shot the lowest round in U.S. Open history and earned almost $20 million on the seson.
Thomas was the National Player of the Year in 2012 while at the University of Alabama as well as a member of the Crimson Tide's national-championship team in 2013.

Alabama 28-point Favorite Over Ole Miss

The Alabama Crimson Tide football team has been named a 28-point favorite heading into Saturday's contest with the Ole Miss Rebels, according to Danny Sheridan.
Ole Miss is currently 2-1 on the young season under the direction of interim head coach Matt Luke. He was named interim head coach following the resignation of Hugh Freeze back in July.
The Rebels picked up two wins to start the 2017 season, but fell to unranked California 27-16 on September 16th. The wins were against South Alabama and UT Martin.
The Crimson Tide had to come back from a 24-3 deficit to beat the Rebels 48-43 in Oxford, Mississippi last season.

NASHVILLE, Tennessee – Exuberance over a big win can sometimes cause an athlete and/or a team to make statements that later make one grimace. Such an argument can be made for the Vanderbilt Commodores. One player was highlighted for his statement, "Bama, you're next", but the entire team was walking with a swagger that quickly turned into a stagger on Saturday.  An unstoppable rushing game combined with a bruising and stifling defense spelled doom for Vandy as the No. 1 ranked University of Alabama football dismantled and totally decimated the pride and cockiness of the 'Dores on Saturday to the tune of 59-0 at Vanderbilt Stadium in the Bama's Southeastern Conference opener.

The Crimson Tide (4-0, 1-0) amassed 677 total yards of offence while rolling up 496-rushing yards, along with a program-best 38 total first downs in the victory. UA scored six rushing touchdowns, two passing TDs and a field goal in the sinking of the U.S.S. Vandy.

Alabama junior running back Damien Harris led the unstoppable Tide rushing attack with a career-best 151 yards on 12 carries en route to three touchdowns. Junior running back Bo Scarbrough  picked up 79 yards on 11 carries, including two touchdowns. A total of seven other Crimson Tide student-athletes carried the ball, including another rushing touchdown by freshman running back Brian Robinson, Jr.

Concerning the Alabama offensive effort, Crimson Tide head football coach Nick Saban said, "I think we need to say something about the offensive line. We talk a lot about how good Vanderbilt's defense is and for our offensive line to control the line of scrimmage the way they did was important. I think our runners ran well and everyone did a good job. Bo [Scarborough], Damien [Harris] and Najee [Harris] each did a good job while they were in."

As usual Bama quarterback Jalen Hurts was phenomenal He definitely did his job in leading the Crimson Tide offense. He stayed home more, not doing all the running he has been known for, but enough to show he had it against the Commodores. He selected the right players to get the ball to, allowing the offense enough cushion early to bring in freshman QB Tua Tagovailoa in the second half. Tua tallied 103 yards on 8-of-10 passing and two touchdowns, one going to fellow sophomore wide receiver Jerry Jeudy and the other to another freshman wide receiver, Devonta Smith.

The Alabama offense rolled up 38 first downs in the contest as compared to only allow Vandy three all day. The Tide was 9-of-15 on third downs and 2-of-2 on fourth down conversions. Time of possession was more like Bama this week holding the ball for 42:55 as opposed to only 17:05 for Vanderbilt.

The Bama defense certainly did its job on Saturday, holding Vandy to 78 total yards of offense, that included only 40 yards on the ground and 38 passing yards. Senior linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton was the defensive leader with five tackle that included two solo stops.

Following the game, QB Jalen Hurts commenting on the smack talk from the Commodores prior to Saturday's contest- "At Alabama, we want to be respected, and we don't feel like they were showing us respect. So, we came out here and tried to play Alabama football."

Concerning the defensive goal of yesterday's game, Bama linebacker Rashaan Evans said, "All we wanted to do was to play with passion to show how much we love this game. I feel like we did that today and we want to continue to do that throughout the year."

The Crimson Tide will play next Saturday from the friendly confines of Bryant-Denny Stadium when hosting the Ole Miss Rebels. Game time is set for 8 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on ESPN.
