KNOXVILLE, Tennessee – The final game of the men's basketball regular season is over, and the University of Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team lost 59-54 in Knoxville to the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday afternoon at Thompson-Boling Arena. Bama falls to 17-13 overall, 10-8 SEC and will enter the Southeastern Conference Men's Basketball Tournament at the No. 5 seed next week.

Two Tide players finished in double-figures in yesterday's contest. Junior Riley Norris pumped in 13 points in the rivalry-contest, while freshman Braxton Key was just one point back at 12 points. Leading Bama in rebounding was sophomore Donta Hall with a total of seven.

UA led the contest at the end of the first half with a 14-point lead, 36-22. The Crimson Tide came out of the gate to start the game on a tear, easily taking an 11-point lead midway of the first, then stretched it heading into the locker room.

A good eye, steady hands and impressive teamwork had Alabama at 13-of-23 (57 percent) from the field in the opening stanza as opposed to the Vols at a measly 6-of-30 (20 percent). From behind the three-point line Bama was blazin' at 7-of-9 (78 percent) while Tennessee was a mere 1-of-12 (eight percent) from three-point land. Alabama's bench contributed heavily in the first half, outscoring Tennessee's bench by a 23-3 margin, led by Norris, who picked all of his 13 points in the frame.

The Crimson Tide stretched its lead to as many as 16 points before the wheels came off early in the second half, and the Tennessee Volunteers would begin its climb to victory. With 8: 35 remaining in the game the Vols took a two-point lead, 48-47.  Bama responded with six consecutive points to move ahead 53-48 with only 4:30 remaining in the game. Following a timeout by Vols' head coach Rick Barnes, Tennessee would knock down back-to-back threes to once again retake the lead 54-53 with time ticking down, just 1:48 remaining to be played. The Volunteers then went on an 11-1 offensive tear for the win.

Alabama's output plummeted in the second half, hitting just 6-of-24 (25 percent) from the field and hitting only 1-of-8 (13 percent) from three-point land. Meanwhile, Tennessee was stepping it up, hitting 13-of-29 (45 percent) from the field, including completing 6-of-11 (55 percent) from beyond the arc.

For the game, the Crimson Tide hit on 19-of-47 (40 percent) from the field, 8-of-17 (47 percent) from beyond the arc. The Vols out-rebounded the Tide 40-32 overall, only the third time this season Bama has lost the rebounding battle.

Alabama will begin Southeastern Conference Men's Basketball Tournament play this coming Thursday, March 9th facing the winner between the No. 12 and No. 13 seeds. The game will tip at approximately 2:30 p.m. CT.

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The Alabama men's baseball team took down ULM on Saturday 6-2 at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa.  A pair of three-run innings made the difference, and the Crimson Tide earns the series victory and improves to a 5-5 record on the young season.

Bama baseball head coach Greg Goff said, "I'm really pleased with the way our guys came out again today and put some competitive at-bats together early, The biggest difference for us now is that we are consistently putting hits together; that gives us a chance to score some runs. We're still not at our final destination, but we're definitely working in the right direction. I was really proud of how Jake (Walters) came out and put up zeros for us and our guys really played great defense behind him."

Alabama's junior starter yesterday, Jake Walters (2-1), earned his second win of the season in his 6.0 innings of work. Walters allowed just two runs, both unearned, on six hits with no walks and tallied four strikeouts across his 87 pitches, Right-hander Garrett Suchey came on in relief, totaling 3.0 innings of scoreless ball and allowed only one hit to earn his first career save withe the Tide.

Eight of Alabama's nine starters collected a hit in the game, with 10 of the 11 batters who recorded an at-bat notching at least one hit. The offensive was led by man Chandler Avant, who finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for his fifth multi-hit game of the season. Sam Finnerty led the UA in RBIs, finishing with two on the day, both of which came from a two-run double in his pinch-hit effort.

The Crimson Tide will be looking to sweep the series this afternoon. Starting for Bama will be sophomore left-hander Dylan Duarte in the series finale. ULM will counter with junior right-hander Chase Beal. First pitch is set for a 1 p.m. CT.
