Alabama's Nick Saban Honored
For Suicide Prevention Efforts
TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - University of Alabama football head coach Nick Saban has received yet another honor. No, this one has nothing to do with football. This one deals with life and death.
Nick Saban has been honored with the Grant Teaff/Jason Foundation "Breaking the Silence" Award for his contributions to suicide prevention. Saban has long been known for his many humanitarian efforts, and suicide prevention is one for which he has dedicated both his time and monetary resources since arriving in Tuscaloosa 11 years ago.
The Jason Flatt Act has been passed in 16 states, and provides required training for school educators to be better able to identify and assist possible at-risk youth who may be struggling with thoughts of suicide. Saban was key in helping getting this passed in the state of Alabama.
The Jason Foundations is in the forefront of youth suicide awareness and prevention. The foundation was founded back in 1997 following the suicide of Jason Foundation president Clark Flatts son, Jason. Clark Flatt and Nick Saban has known each other since Saban was the head coach at LSU.
