The University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team put in a good ninety-minute workout fine-tuning the defending National Championship team that currently sits at the No. 1 spot in all the major college football polls. Bama practiced in shells yesterday afternoon at the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility focusing on fundamentals, special teams and fine-tuning a game plan specifically for the visiting Kentucky Wildcats tomorrow.

Damien Harris continues to show improvement in practice following his injury this past Saturday. Alabama head coach Nick Saban stopped short of saying Harris would be ready for tomorrow's contest with Kentucky, instead saying "they hope" he will be ready.

The others injured last Saturday and in last week's practice also have shown definite improvement and will be ready to go.

Alabama will host Kentucky in its annual homecoming game tomorrow at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on ESPN. Dave Pasch will be handling the play-by-play, former Crimson Tide quarterback Greg McElroy will be providing the analysis of the game and Tom Luginbill will be on the sidelines.

This will be the 40th meeting between the two schools, with Alabama holding a 36-2-1 lead in the contest record books. The Crimson Tide is 9-0 in Tuscaloosa against the Wildcats. In their last head-to-head back in 2013 in Lexington, Kentucky, the Tide came away with a decisive 48-7 victory.

UA head coach Nick Saban is 8-1 in Southeastern Conference home openers at the Capstone.

The Alabama Crimson Tide football team is the No. 1 team...wait. Hold on. Wrong sport.

The University of Alabama Crimson Tide women's golf team is the No. 1 team in the country after finishing first in their first tournament of the season, followed by a second-place finish just a week ago.

The Crimson Tide's top two golfers of the young 2016-17 season are sophomore Cheyenne Knight and freshman Kristen Gillman. Knight currently leads the team with a 68.17 average, with Gillman not far behind at 69.50. Knight finished first at the Mason Rudolph Championship and sixth at the Schooner Fall Classic. Gillman finished second and eighth, respectively.

Alabama captured the No. 1 position with a team score of 70.30 in the Golfstat statistical rankings. Florida State (70.53), USC (70.60), Arkansas (71.00) and UCLA (71.13) round out the top five. The Crimson Tide also tops the latest Golfweek ratings with a score of 68.98, followed by the Seminoles (69.07), Trojans (69.85), Razorbacks (70.02) and Bruins (70.19).

Next up for Bama is  the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, hosted by the University of North Carolina, October 14-16 at Finley Golf Club in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

What Saban Said..."Hey Coach"

Thursday night was interesting on "Hey Coach" with Alabama head football coach Nick Saban. He talked about the upcoming game with the Kentucky Wildcats, alluded to the Blake Barnett transfer and transfers in general in speaking with former Alabama quarterback and ESPN analyst Greg McElroy, injuries and more.

Saban's first comments were directed to media guest, Greg McElroy. Or was it? Saban mentioned how McElroy waited and worked for three years before getting his chance to start at the University of Alabama as quarterback, and then won a national championship to top it all off.

The coach talked about the "external noise" all around, but that everyone inside the program was focused.

Talking about this week's opponent, the Kentucky Wildcats, Saban said that they played a more physical game than the previous three weeks. It paid dividends, too, as Kentucky defeated the South Carolina Gamecocks 17-10. He then went on to say how it is harder to run inside against the UK 3-4 defensive scheme.

Concerning the "transfer-culture" that seems prevalent these days among the so-called gifted athletes, Saban spoke of how they look to transferring out of a program when and if things don't work out as quickly as they had hoped. He also mentioned that he would have been kicked out of the house as a kid if he quit the team.

Saban had praise for the latest addition to the Tide football staff, Steve Sarkisian. He talked of Sark's organizational skills and how he has been huge in that regard and in getting meetings set up.

The subject of running back Damien Harris came up. Saban said he hoped that Harris will be able to play on Saturday.

Saban offered a little insight into a talk that Jeremy Pruitt gave to the team prior to the USC game that he believed gave a new perspective. He reminded the young men that there was a state full of people who would struggle sleeping because they were worried about the game. It helped remind them what it means to the state of Alabama.

When asked about what the Tennessee game meant to him, Saban actually replied in a calm manner. Though he did say it was important to the players, he said that he was worried about the Kentucky game this weekend first. He did add that the Alabama-Tennessee matchup was the rivalry the players looked forward to the most every season.

Saban said that this game, and all games for that matter, were about sustaining sixty full minutes of play and concentration. He mentioned how there had already been so many second half comebacks this season.

Blake Barnett Officially Withdraws From UA

Former Alabama Quarterback Blake Barnett

University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban made it clear this week that he wanted the now-former Crimson Tide quarterback Blake Barnett to remain with the Alabama football family. That was not to be. Despite his encouragement to stay, Barnett has officially withdrawn not only from the team, but also from the University of Alabama. He is no longer a part of the team or the university.
In a statement Saban said, "We received word this afternoon that Blake Barnett has officially withdrawn from school and is no longer with our program. The quarterback position is a very unique position where only one player can play. We are very disappointed any time a player leaves the program who feels he can compete for a starting position elsewhere, rather than here at Alabama. We wish Blake the very best of luck in the future."
Barnett started the season-opening game against the USC Trojans out in Texas back at the first of the month. This season the young man threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns, but lost the starting job to true freshman Jalen Hurts, and has played only sparingly since that time. Saban, however, had not officially named a "starting" quarterback for the team, though Hurts had started the last three games.
In his press briefing earlier in the week, Saban had said he hoped that Barnett would choose to remain with Alabama.
No word yet on where Barnett is interested in playing. The former five-star recruit should be receiving plenty of inquiries, however, from interested schools. He certainly had numerous offers as a high school junior and freshman, so no reason for that to change. Barnett is a native of Southern California.
It has been learned that Barnett will be transferring to a junior college, AL.com is reporting. He chose now to leave so that he would be eligible to play following the fourth game of the 2017 season instead of having to wait until the start of the 2018 football season. Of course he must also complete an average of 12 hours of transferrable degree credit per term while earning at least a 2.5 GPA in those in those courses.

Bama Women's Swimming & Diving In Action Today

The University of Alabama women's swimming and diving team hosts Vanderbilt and West Florida this afternoon at 4 p.m. CT at the Alabama Aquatic Center in a three-team meet.

Crimson Tide swimming and diving coach Dennis Pursley said, "This will be the second meet for our women's team and their first on their own without the men. As a combined program we swim together most meets, but I don't think it's bad everyone once in a while to have a meet where the women move to front and center so to speak."

This will be the Alabama ladies first meet of the season against SEC competition, but the second home meet of the young season. The Crimson Tide won its home opener against Delta State in early September.

"As the team grows and becomes more successful, competition for spots on the travel squad becomes tougher," Pursley commented. "This meet will serve as a final indicator of who will be on that list as we get ready for road meets at Missouri and Auburn in the coming weeks. It's also a chance for some to swim events they might not normally get a chance to during the regular season, but might see action in once we get to the postseason."

Earlier in the month the Alabama women beat Delta State, 212-82, with the Tide winning the opening and closing relays. The ladies also were victorious in all 12 individual races and both diving events.

Admission to today's meet is free, and is also part of Alabama Athletics' Power of Pink slate of events. Alabama Athletics sponsors The Power of Pink initiative to help raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer.  The Tide will be giving away Power of Pink tee-shirts, pink shakers and pizza to those in attendance at today's event.

Daniell and Routliffe will be facing the winner of the Patrycia Polanska and Maomi Totka vs. Amy Zhu and Alexa Bortles match.

LSU Actually Considering Nick Saban

UA Head Football Coach Nick Saban

After firing head coach Les Miles after the fourth game of the 2016 season, LSU is in scramble-mode to find a new head coach. It appears the brains of the powers-that-be may be a bit scrambled too.

Following the firing of Miles, LSU hired assistant coach Ed Orgeron as interim head coach, a position with which Orgeron has become familiar. Of course there is always the chance that Orgeron could be named the permanent head football coach at Louisiana State University, especially if he manages to coach them to victories in their remaining games. But don't hold your breath.

It appears that the "search committee" at LSU is going after some of the biggest names in college football, but don't hold your breath on that one either. University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban appears to top the list, or to be one of those near the top.

According to FootballScoop.com, LSU is interested in Saban, Ohio State's Urban Meyer, Florida State's Jimbo Fisher and the like. "If Orgeron doesn't earn the job, sources tell FootballScoop that LSU's committe believes they can and should land a home run. 'Their sights are on national championship-caliber, proven head coaches' a source with knowledge told FootballScoop...During the initial, exploratory phase, we are told to expect LSU, through representatives, to gauge the interest of some of the top coaches in college football, including Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, Jimbo Fisher and Tom Herman. Right or wrong, sources tell FootballScoop that LSU believes they will be able to attract a coach of that caliber."

It is doubtful that Saban would go back to LSU, from which he left to go to the NFL's Miami Dolphins. The fickle fan base that are the Tigers were upset enough at his departure, much less when he left those same dolphins to coach the Crimson Tide, which they took as a colossal slap in the face.

And Urban Meyer? Leave his beloved Ohio State after finally "escaping" the pressures of the Southeastern Conference only to return? No way. He likes his king-of-hill coaching position and dominance over a conference, much like Saban has at Alabama with the SEC.

Unless Jimbo Fisher wants to join the fray and no longer be the "team to beat" in a conference, one would suppose he could leave the ACC for the SEC, but...again...doubtful.

It might be safe to say that LSU will be looking beyond the names supplied to FootballScoop.

New Information On Tim Williams Arrest

Alabama football had its problems with players getting into trouble with law during the Tide's summer break, but now one of it's star players has been arrested after four games into the 2016 college football season.

Crimson Tide senior outside lineback Tim Williams was arrested early yesterday morning and charged with carrying a pistol without a permit. The charge is classified as a misdemeanor.

According to reports, Williams was arrested in the Tuscaloosa Publix parking lot after an officer smelled marijuana coming from Williams' vehicle. At approximately 2:00 a.m. CT, the officer then searched the car after a passenger in the vehicle claimed the marijuana. A pistol was found under the driver's seat of Williams' vehicle and he was arrested. Bond has been set at $300.

Williams apparently told University of Alabama police that the gun had been purchased three weeks ago at a legitimate gun store while he was visiting home in Louisiana. Supposedly he has the temporary permit issued by the gun store, but failed to have it in his possession at the time of the arrest. He said he thought that gave him the right to carry the firearm, but allegedly was told by the police officer he must also possess a conceal carry permit, which Williams didn't have. He was then arrested and transported to the Tuscaloosa County Jail.

Bama Cross Country Teams Post Top 20 Finishes

The Alabama men's and women's cross country teams both posted top 20 finishes today at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitation at South Bend, Indiana. The men finished 17th this afternoon, while the women brought home a 15th-place finish.  This was the third meet of the season for both squads.

Head coach Dan Waters said, "This was good learning experience for us. We did some things we hadn't done on the course before and several of the women posted personal bests so there is a lot we can take away from this meet heading into the Crimson Classic."

Bama senior Antibahs Kosgei was the Crimson Tide's top runner today in the men's five-mile race,  finishing sixth in a time of 23:53.4. Kosgei now has three top 10 finishes in three meets already this season. The second and third finishers for the Alabama men were seniors Robbie Farnham-Rose (24:49.00) and Conner Thompson (24:58.4). Also scoring for Alabama were junior Garrett Bull (25:31.7) and senior Evan Prizy (25:32.3).
Other men's finishers for the Alabama men were sophomore Josh Short (25:59.3), freshman James Brinyark (26:06.9) and junior Andrew Bull (26:09.8).

Turning to the Crimson Tide women, it was senior Hannah Waggoner coming in as the top runner for Bama in the 5,000 meter race, finishing 47th in a personal best time of 17:06.7. Waggoner has been the Tide's No. 1 runner in both of her appearances this season. Freshman McKenzie Yanek was Alabama's second finisher, coming in 69th in 17:21.2. Sophomore Rachael Reddy came in 76th at 17:27.3. Freshman Rebecca Buteau (17:50.5) and junior Emily Edwards (17:51.00) completed the scoring for the Tide.

Also finishing for Alabama were junior Caroline Barlow (17:54.00), freshman Elisabeth Danis (18:12.1), sophomore Calli Coggins (18:12.6) and freshman Alexa Cruz (18:27.5).

Nexgt up for the Crimson Tide is the Crimson Classic on October 14th at Harry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa. The men's 8,000-meter race will take place at 9 a.m. CT, and will be followed by the women's 6,000-meter race scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m.

Crimson Tide Continues To Work Toward Kentucky Contest

Homecoming is a really big deal at the University of Alabama. Well, I suppose it is for any college or university. But where football is a lifestyle, and the folks coming home to celebrate their Alabama roots, it's a cornucopia of "Who's Who In Sports" both in the college and professional ranks. Add to that the actors and actresses, statesmen and philanthropists and you have an idea of the "big deal" homecoming is at the Capstone.

That being said, the Alabama football team was hard at work yesterday to ensure victory in this year's homecoming contest, with a two-hour workout in full pads at the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields in beautiful Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Concentration, dedication, personal assignments and the refinement of the game plan were the main ingredients in this victory cake being baked up in anticipation of a victory Saturday over the visiting Wildcats of Kentucky. These kitties would like nothing better than to spoil a perfect 4-0 season for the nation's top-ranked team and secure some bragging rights sure to last for months or even years.

Kentucky boasts one of the Southeastern Conference's top offensive units, and the Tide defense is hard at work this week to stop or at least slow it down. Bama's boys will need to be on-point and concentrating on assignments, personal responsibility and teamwork on this one.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Blake Barnett was absent from practice and is reportedly transferring. Alabama head coach Nick Saban says he hopes Barnett chooses to remain with the team.

Running back Damien Harris was looking good in practice. His leg was wrapped but participating in all the drills and workouts.

Receivers ArDarius Stewart and Robert Foster appeared to be in good shape.

Alabama and Kentucky will face off this Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium, with the kickoff set for 6:05 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN, with Dave Pasch and former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy in the booth, along with Tom Luginbill roaming the sidelines for the broadcast.

This will be the 40th meeting between the pair in a series dating all the way back to 1917. The Crimson Tide leads the series at 36-2-1. Alabama head coach Nick Saban owns an 8-1 mark in Southeastern Conference home-openers at the Capstone.

Alabama Quarterback Blake Barnett Transferring

University of Alabama Crimson Tide redshirt freshman quarterback Blake Barnett is transferring and has left the program, AL.com is reporting. Barnett was the season-opening quarterback in the USC game to start the season, but has been relegated to the backup position since true freshman Jalen Hurts has pretty much taken the reins.

Barnett was 11-of-19 in passing with 219 yards and two touchdowns while playing in three of Alabama's first four contests. The youngster was rated by the 247Sports Composite Rankings as the No. 2 pro-style quarterback and the No. 21 overall prospect in his recruiting class.

Alabama head football coach Nick Saban said that Barnett had met with him prior to Wednesday's practice session and that Barnett had expressed "some concerns about his future." When asked if Barnett had officially left the team or is still with the team, Saban said, "I don't know. We'll make a statement when we find out for sure."

Concerning Barnett, the young man as well as the quarterback, Saban said, "Blake is a fine young man. He's done a great job with the program, and we'd love to see him be a part of the program in the future, but we also want him to do what's best for him."

Alabama player's reactions began yesterday on Twitter. Alphonse Taylor said, "Keep God first and do everything in his glory and you can never go wrong my brother! I wish you nothing but the best." Matt Womack writes, "Just wanted to acknowledge a great athlete, leader..." Mac Wilson said, "Remember be great...wherever you go. Good luck big bro."

However there are those who haven't been so kind. A few former players have made their thoughts known, as well as the "usual" mouthy fans. I have chosen not to list their Twitter or other social media comments here. Though leaving after four games is not ideal, one should respect Barnett's decision and realize it wasn't an easy one for him to make. It's possible, of course, he has been speaking with another coach or coaches from various other college teams.

It's Power of Pink time at the University of Alabama. The Alabama Athletics Department's 2016-17 Power of Pink slate of events gets underway tomorrow as the Crimson Tide women's swimming and diving team does battle with on Vanderbilt and West Florida at 4 p.m. CT  in the Alabama Aquatic Center.

Alabama Athletics has developed Power of Pink events for all women's sports to raise the awareness of breast cancer among students and fans. This initiative was begun back in 2009 and has continued annually ever since.

Crimson Tide head swimming & diving coach Dennis Pursley said, "Being a part of Alabama Athletics' Power of Pink initiative falls in line with one of the cornerstones of our program – working to make a positive impact in the community. We're glad to serve as the opening event this year."

The Power of Pink initiative originally started back in 2004 under the legendary gymnastics head coach Sarah Patterson and Alabama gymnastics. The program is now in its eighth season including the full spectrum of the Crimson Tide's women's teams which includes soccer, volleyball, cross country, basketball, tennis, rowing, softball, swimming and diving and track and field, with events planned throughout the academic year.

University of Alabama swimming and diving captain Mia Nonnenberg commented, "As a team, we really love the Power of Pink because it's something we can do to give back to the community. "Whether we have had a family member or loved one with breast cancer or, any other cancer for that matter, it's a great opportunity to show we really support this cause. I think that brings us closer to each other and the community at large."

Crimson Tide swimming and diving's Power of Pink event takes place on the eve of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. There will be free tee shirts, shakers as well as pizza available at the event. Alabama Power of Pink dates in October include soccer (October 13th), cross country (October 14th) and volleyball (October 16th).

Bama Prep For Kentucky Well Underway; Alabama Sotball To Host Annual Fan Day; Weekly USTFCCCA Poll; Zac Smith, 5 Others From IMG To Visit Alabama; Will Les Miles Firing Help Alabama Recruiting?

Bama Prep For Kentucky Well Underway

You don't have to tell the players of The University of Alabama football team that this game, like all remaining games on the schedule, is important. Not only is this week's matchup with the Kentucky Wildcats the homecoming game for the Crimson Tide, it's also a Southeastern Conference football game. Kentucky is one of two SEC Eastern Division opponents on the Tide's schedule this season (Tennessee is the other, and always on the yearly game schedule.)

The Crimson Tide put in approximately two hours of practice in full pads yesterday afternoon on the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields in Tuscaloosa. The objective: putting together an effective game plan for a stout Wildcat offense to help Bama remain undefeated in both SEC play and overall. It's must-win for a shot at the Southeastern Conference crown as well as National Championship.

Alabama running back Damien Harris, as well as receivers ArDarius Stewart and Robert Foster, were all three suited up and practicing yesterday. Both of Harris' legs were taped up, but seemed to be handling drills well, but somewhat limited, as he recovers from an ankle sprain received this past Saturday in the Kent State contest.

Stewart was wearing a brace on his left knee in practice. Both Stewart and Foster were a bit limited also in their workouts, but appeared to be recovering nicely. Stewart suffered a sprain in this last weekend's game while Foster was injured in one of the practice session.

This Saturday's contest will be held at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, with a 6:05 p.m. CT kickoff planned. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN with Dave Pasch handling play-by-play duties, Greg McElroy on color commentary/analysis and Tom Luginbill roaming the sidelines.

Alabama leads the with Kentucky at 36-2-1, including a 9-0 record in Tuscaloosa. In the last meeting, Bama defeated the Wildcats 48-7 in Lexington, Kentucky. Alabama head coach Nick Saban is 8-1 in Southeastern Conference home openers at Alabama, and his teams have outscored opponents 282-129.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase, a free tour of the practice facility and other activities are planned for tomorrow's event. Softball head coach Patrick Murphy will introduce the team following practice, and all in attendance will be given the opportunity to meet the coaches and players for both autographs and photographs.

Alabama softball is coming off an impressive 51-14 season, finishing sixth in the nation after making its 11th Women's College World Series appearance. Fourteen players from last season will be returning.

Six Players From IMG Academy Making The Trip

Will Les Miles Firing Help Alabama Recruiting?

What does the firing of Les Miles from Louisiana State University mean for the Crimson Tide as far as recruiting is concerned? Does it open up any real possibilities? Many recruits are drawn to a particular university because of the university itself, but there are those who take the plunge because of a particular head coach or an assistant.

Here are some recruits that either have committed to LSU, have in the past but still looking, or are an LSU-lean that Alabama may have a real shot at pulling in. Of course, it should be noted, a really good hire at LSU could keep any LSU-leans in their fold.

The nation's number two junior college recruit, Isaiah Buggs, has listed The Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn, LSU and Ole Miss as his final four. However, word is that the Miles firing could benefit Auburn more than Bama.

Five-star recruit Jacoby Stevens, safety/athlete out of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, committed to the LSU Tigers over both Alabama and Auburn, and both could get a bump now in his eyes with the firing of Les Miles.

There was a time that Alabama was the team to beat as far as linebacker Christopher Allen out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana was concerned. Then he announced that LSU had moved up to a tie with the Tide. Could the departure of Miles put Bama back on top?

Four-star safety Todd Harris out of Plaquemine, Louisiana has Alabama, LSU and Ole Miss as his top three schools. Could it be down to two?

A pair of Louisiana defensive tackles had Alabama on top of their list until the resignation of assistant Bo Dave from Bama. They then listed LSU as their choice. Marvin Wilson out of Houston was still interested but less so. Tyler Shelvin chose to commit with LSU. If the Davis resignation dropped the Tide in their lists, what will the firing of Les Miles do?

Alabama, and most of college football for that matter, have been after five-star IMG Academy-recruit prospect Dylan Moses. He is originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and had originally been committed to LSU but backed off later. He was reportedly pretty close to Les Miles and was still considered to be headed to the Tigers. He is planning a visit to Alabama this weekend, along with five other of his IMG teammates. Moses' decision could come down to who LSU hires.

It's Homecoming Week at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama football practice is in full go-mode in its preparation for the visiting Kentucky Wildcats this coming Saturday. Monday's practice session lasted just under 90 minutes and was in shells only at the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields.

While head coach Nick Saban had said that the Alabama-Kent State contest was the first complete game the Crimson Tide had played all year, he didn't say it was perfect. Bama focused on correcting the flaws in the 48-0 victory in an effort to be better prepared for their second Southeastern Conference foe this season, and the first from the Eastern Division.

Three players were missing from practice yesterday during the media viewing period. Running back Damien Harris as well as wide receivers ArDarius Stewart and Robert Foster are listed as "day-to-day" according to Saban. Harris is suffering from a sprained ankle, while Stewart and Foster both have knee injuries.

Linebacker Rashaan Evans was at Monday's practice. Evans didn't play in the Kent State game this past Saturday.

The 4-0 (1-0 SEC) Crimson Tide face off against the Wildcats (2-2, 1-1 SEC) this Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium for homecoming, with a 6:05 p.m. CT kickoff. ESPN will broadcast the game live, with Dave Pasch handling play-by-play, Greg McElroy provide analysis and Tom Luginbill on the sidelines. Kentucky is led by head coach Mark Stoops, now in his fourth season at Lexington. The 'Cats are coming off a 17-10 win over South Carolina.

Alabama leads the series with Kentucky 36-2-1 which includes a 9-0 record in Tuscaloosa. In the last meeting in 2013, Bama defeated the Wildcats 48-7 in Lexington. Saban is 8-1 in SEC home-openers, and have outscored opponents 282-129. This is Kentucky's first trip to Tuscaloosa since 2008.

What Saban Said...At Monday's Press Briefing

University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban met with the media yesterday afternoon to talk about this past Saturday's game with Kent State as well as the upcoming contest with the Kentucky Wildcats. He also spoke of injuries to various players, and a few thoughts on the firing of LSU head coach Les Miles.

In his opening statement, Saban said, "Well, just in review, we challenged the players to play a complete game, and I thought we did a much better job of that in this last game. Now that we are back in SEC play, I think it's time to build on that; build on the momentum; play faster; be more crisp; practice better; play with confidence; use the right technique and not talk about paying attention to detail or being casual or finishing or any of those things. If we want to be the team that we are capable of being, I think it's important for everyone to buy into that and do that. The SEC is a tough league and every game you play in this league is an important game as this game will be against Kentucky.

"You all got the players of the week. The injury update is Damien Harris is still day-to-day. He probably won't do much today. I think ArDarius Stewart and Robert Foster will both still be listed as day-to-day and questionable for this game.

"We are looking forward to Homecoming and playing at home. Hopefully we will have a great crowd that's enthusiastic about this game, and I know our players definitely will be.

"Tony Brown and Johnny Dwight are both eligible to play in this game. They have done all the things they needed to do, so their suspensions are over, and we are very happy to have them back.

"Kentucky has played their best in the last two games that they have played. Mark Stoops has done a really good job of sort of finding out who they are and how they want to play. They played really well in the last two games. They have really good skill players on offense, good running backs and good receivers. They have explosive guys that have put up pretty impressive performances to this point. Their quarterback has played well for them, even though he had to come in for the starter, and he has done a nice job; they haven't really skipped a beat. Defensively, they really played their best in their last game against South Carolina. They did much better on third down and got off the field. This is a physical team, and I think it's going to be really important that we start fast and play physical in this game and in all aspects of the game because they are a very well-coached team. They are playing really well right now."

When asked to comment on the firing of LSU head coach Les Miles, Saban said, "That's not really for me to say, you know, one way or the other. It's a challenge for us to continue to try to be successful. I can't really comment on anybody else's standard for what they want to try to accomplish or what they want to try to do."

It was apparent Saban had respect for the man that took over at LSU after he left for the NFL. "First of all, Les Miles is one of the most respected colleagues in terms of the rivalry that we've had, the competition that we've had, the great teams that they've had," Saban said. "I kind of hated that a man wins a national championship, wins two SEC titles and doesn't make it through the season. It is what it is, but I have a tremendous amount of respect for Les Miles and what he was able to accomplish there, the number of wins he had.

"This is very similar to Georgia firing Mark Richt when he averages 10 wins a season. I guess this is the time that we live in, everybody needs to know that, but it doesn't minimize to any degree the amount of respect that I have for the job that Les Miles did at LSU, the great competitive teams that he's had there for a long, long time  and the amount of success that he's had. And certainly wish him and his family well."

Concerning the Kentucky Wildcats, and head coach Mark Stoops in particular, Saban said he goes way back with Stoops and his family. He even spoke of having been unsuccessful at trying to get stoops to Michigan State as a recruit.
