TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team split its Sunday doubleheader with Arkansas-Pine Bluff, falling 8-3 in the first game one before rolling in to win 12-2 in seven innings in the second game to claim the series win. UA now moves to 9-6 on the season.

Alabama baseball head coach Greg Goff said, "It doesn't matter where we're at in the lineup, I feel like we have a chance to score. I'm glad our guys responded (after the game-one loss). That's what I walked away with tonight – that our guys responded after we didn't play well (in the first game). Arkansas-Pine Bluff just beat us. They hit two bombs, and (starting pitcher Nathan Sawrie) competed, mixed his pitches and got us out. I don't want to take it away from them that they got us game one, but overall I'm pleased with the way we competed this weekend."

The Crimson Tide's Cody Henry led the Bama boys in the Sunday doubleheader, finishing the day three-for-six with a double, a home run, one RBI and two runs scored. Right behind Henry was Tanner DeVinny closing out his two games at two-for-four with a home run, a team-high four RBIs and one run scored.

Next, Alabama will play two during the week. The first game is against Eastern Illinois on Tuesday, March 14th, followed by in-state foe Samford on Wednesday. Both games are scheduled for a 6 p.m. CT start at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The University of Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team has earned a No. 3 seed in the 2017 National Invitation Tournament. The Crimson Tide will be hosting the No. 6 seed Richmond Spiders in Coleman Coliseum on Tuesday, March 14th in the opening round of the NIT. Tip off for Alabama and Richmond is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. CT on ESPN2.

UA men's head basketball coach Avery Johnson, "We are excited about participating in the NIT for a second year in a row. We felt we had a fantastic finish at the SEC Tournament overall in terms of winning games over Mississippi State and South Carolina. We came up a little short of beating a Kentucky team that was a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. We think we had a nice end to the year. We played with energy and improved in a lot of areas offensively. We are excited for our seniors to continue playing and happy that our younger guys will get more games in postseason play."
The Bama men earned one of the 22 at-large spots available in the 32-team field due to its 19-14 record during the regular season, including an appearance in the 2017 SEC Tournament semifinals.
The Crimson Tide will be facing the Richmond Spiders in the NIT first-round, a team that finished the 2016-17 season with a 20-12 overall record and a 13-5 slate in Atlantic 10 Conference play. The Spiders have won seven of their last 10 games entering the NIT.

The two teams have met three times previously, with the last meeting coming nearly 30 years ago on November 26, 1988, a game which Alabama won 54-49. The Crimson Tide defeated the Spider in all three previous matchups between the two teams.

Alabama, which will make its third consecutive appearance in the NIT and fifth appearance in the last seven years, will be playing in its 15th National Invitational Tournament in school history, which leads all Southeastern Conference schools. The Tennessee Volunteers, which made its last NIT appearance in 2013, is second with 13 appearances. Alabama is 24-17 (.585) all-time in the event. These 24 wins gives the Tide the most NIT wins among SEC schools.

The Crimson Tide is one of eight Southeastern Conference teams to earn a berth in either the NCAA Tournament or NIT. Joining Alabama in the NIT are the Georgia Bulldogs and  Ole Miss Rebels, while while Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina and Vanderbilt each have earned slots in the NCAA Tournament.
