TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – This one was a tough loss. And the bubble may have burst for an NCAA Tournament bid. Though the University of Alabama men's basketball team trailed Georgia by as many as 14 points in this Southeastern Conference game, the Crimson Tide cut the lead to just one point five different times in the last nine minutes of the contest, eventually falling to the Bulldogs 60-55 in Coleman Coliseum.  Bama never led in the game, and with the loss, falls to 16-11 overall, 9-6 SEC.

Leading the Crimson Tide in scoring was junior Ar'Mond Davis with 17 points. Just one point back was freshman Braxton Key with 16 and nine rebounds. Sophomore Donta Hall picked up 11 points and nine rebounds.

Alabama men's basketball head coach Avery Johnson said, "This was not our best game tonight. We've been searching for a balanced game, and we just weren't balanced on a night that we needed to be balanced. We had a decent defensive effort, (J.J.) Frazier slipped some traps and there were a couple of loose balls that we didn't get. They ended up scoring 60 points and normally, when teams score 62 points or less, we've been pretty successful. We had a very lethargic first half on offense, it's been something that has been kind of a snake bite all year. We were able to come back, we find ourselves in the second half and then fight uphill all game. We cut the lead to one point several times down the stretch, but then we didn't take care of the ball, had a couple of turnovers; but the game didn't come down to those turnovers or the second half. We just didn't have a good first half by any stretch of the imagination, especially offensively."

Offensively, it was a poorly played first half for Bama. The Tide struggled, shooting just 23 percent from the field (7-of-31) and was (3-of-13) from beyond the three-point line. Georgia opened the game with a 14-4 run over the first 9:53. Davis kept the Tide in the game, scoring 10 points in the opening 20 minutes. provided a much-needed spark in the opening 20 minutes, and closing the half with a steal dunk at the buzzer to cut Bulldogs' lead to 30-18.

Bama found what they needed at halftime to begin the second have with a new spark. The Tide went on a 13-4 run over a span of 4:56 to cut the Bulldogs' lead to two points, 42-40 with 11:04 to play. Through the first 11 minutes of the second half, Alabama had outscored Georgia 29-18 and trailed by only one point, 48-47, with 9:06 to play.

With just under a minute to play, UA trailed only by one point, 56-55. Redshirt freshman Dazon Ingram fouled Georgia's J.J. Frazier, sending him to the foul line. Frazier made both free throw attempts to extend the Dogs lead over the Tide to three points. A Bama turnover on the next possession and the following foul on the fast break attempt, put Frazier back at the free-throw line. He made one of two free throws, with Georgia adding one more on its next possession for the final score, 60-55.

Alabama has defeated every foe this season when holding the opposition to under 62 points, until last night. Georgia is the first team to defeat Tide fewer than 62. Bama entered the contest a perfect 13-0 when holding opponents under that mark. Alabama outrebounded the Bulldogs 42-30, including a 17-3 advantage on the offensive glass.

The Crimson Tide travels to College Station, Texas on Saturday night to take on the Texas A&M Aggies for the lone contest between these two during the regular season. Game time is 7 p.m. CT and can be viewed on ESPN2.

Bama then has only two remaining games for the regular and SEC seasons. The Tide faces Ole Miss on March 1st at Coleman Coliseum, then ends the season with the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville on March 4th.
