RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The Alabama Crimson Tide men's golf team is currently sitting in a tie for 11th overall after Sunday's opening round of the 2017 Puerto Rico Classic. Bama opened with an 8-over par 296 in Round one. Crimson Tide sophomore Davis Riley was forced to withdraw from the first day due to an injury.

There is a possibility that Riley may be able to return today for the second round. Riley will test his injury prior to tee time, and a determination will be made as to whether he is fit to play.

Alabama will start the day just seven strokes back of a top five spot. It is very possible to make that up today, especially if Riley is in shape to play.  Georgia leads the 15-team field with a 7-under par   281, two strokes ahead of second place North Carolina State at 283. Clemson (284) is in third, followed by Kentucky (286) and Ohio State (289) to round out the top five.

The Crimson Tide was led in the first round by junior Steven Setterstrom, finishing the day at 2-under par 70. He is currently in a tie for seventh overall and only five strokes back of overall leader Stephen Franken of North Carolina State (67).

Bama junior Lee Hodges is in a tie for 12th after shooting a 1-under par 71. Junior Jonathan Hardee currently sits in a tie for 37th at 2-over 74, while redshirt freshman Josh Sedeno is in a tie for 70th with an 81.
