TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – It was a beautiful sight, in more ways than one. Both teams, the fans in the stands, all decked out in pink. Then the meet itself one for the books! The sixth-ranked University of Alabama gymnastics team upset the third-ranked Florida Gators on Friday night in front of 14,423 fans for the Crimson Tide's annual Power of Pink meet. Bama put together its best meet of the season and defeated Florida 197.825-197.425 in Coleman Coliseum.

Following the meet, a very proud Alabama gymnastics head coach, Dana Duckworth, said, "We needed that. I could not be prouder of the amazing amount of team work our ladies showed tonight."

It was a memorable evening, highlighted not by the win, but what occurred prior to the meet. Each Alabama gymnast was introduced in the spotlight accompanied by a breast cancer survivor, and in some cases two survivors, to highlight the ongoing fight against breast cancer championed by the Power of Pink. Incidentally, the Power of Pink initiative was the brain-child of former University of Alabama gymnastics coach and Alabama legend Sarah Patterson in 2004.

The girls were touched by the emotion of the evening, perhaps even getting an extra lift from it. Alabama junior Kiana Winston said, "It felt really good to go out there and do my gymnastics for someone else. I didn't know how well I was doing, I was going out there, having fun and keeping a smile on my face."

Duckworth said, "The ladies were comfortable and relaxed. They did what they needed to do. Were we perfect? No, and we talked about that, telling them, 'don't worry about perfect, worry about staying present.' They went from one routine to the next, mistake or not they moved forward and did what we had been asking them to do all season long."

Winston scored her first perfect score of her career, a 10.0, and brought the packed house screaming and yelling to its feet. It was also only the third 10.0 of the season in the entire nation on the floor exercise this season.

Alabama senior Amanda Jetter said, Kiana (Winston) does it all the time in practice. She does 10.0 floor routines all the time in practice, so we're kind of used to it. It's exciting that she finally was rewarded for it because she deserves every bit that she gets. She's such a hard worker, and she comes in with a smile on her face every day. Even though I'm a senior, I look up to Kiana because of her hard work and dedication."

Here's a look at scoring for Alabama gymnastics against Florida:

Floor exercise - 49.625 (second highest of the season in the nation)
Vault - 49.375 (tied season-best)
Uneven bars - 49.400 (season-best)
Balance beam - 49.425

Winston won the all-around with a career-best 39.700, the third highest total in the nation this season. The junior's 10.0 won the floor exercise while her 9.95 won the uneven bars. Nickie Guerrero won the balance beam with a 9.95 and the vault with a 9.925.

The Crimson Tide will be back in action next week, hitting the road and traveling to Lexington, Kentucky to take on the Wildcats on Friday, February 10th. The meet is slated to begin at 6 p.m. CT.

This will be the second meeting between the two teams this year, with the Tigers already having defeated Bama 84-64 on January 21st in Auburn.

BATON ROUGE, La. – It was another big day for defending NCAA and Southeastern Conference women's long jump champion Quanesha Burks as she posted another win in her storied career, but this one was in her 2017 season debut. Also posting wins for the University of Alabama were Kyle Felpel and Ruebin Walters posted victories in the men's shot put and men's 60-meter hurdles at the Bayou Bengal Invitational at LSU on Friday evening.

Though Alabama sent only five athletes to Friday's meet in Baton Rouge on what was originally an off weekend for the team, the group from Bama managed to pick up three victories and a second-place finish in four events. Seeking her second consecutive NCAA long jump title this season, Burks opened the competition with a mark of 21-4 3/4 (6.52m) that held up for the Crimson Tide's first win. The jump came on her first attempt of the season and equaled the third-best distance in the NCAA so far this season. The jump is also the seventh-best in Alabama track and field history.

Felpel continues to bat a thousand, having won the shot put for the fourth time in four outings this season. His mark of 60-8 3/4 (18.51m) on his final attempt of the preliminary round served as the winning mark in the finals.

Turning to competition on the track, junior Ruebin Walters (7.85) and senior Angelo Goss (8.03) finished 1-2 in the men's 60-meter hurdles. Walters served up a time that is the eighth-fastest in school history. Goss has finished in the top three in all four meets in which he has competed this season.

Alabama's full men's and women's teams will return to action February 10-11, with the teams splitting their squads between the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa and the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina.

Area little league teams will be recognized with a PA announcement and can join the Crimson Tide players on the field during the National Anthem prior to a select game during the upcoming 2017 season. Little leaguers will get the chance to interact with the players prior to starting lineups and then stand on the field with the starters at their position during the National Anthem in an effort to encourage youngsters to participate in their local programs, looking toward the day when they, too, may be able to don the Crimson and White.

Participants must be younger than 12 years of age, per NCAA regulations. The age range for those wishing to participate in Bama Buddies is 5-12 years old. The University of Alabama 2016 football program rolls right on into 2017 garnering more awards and prestige. The Crimson Tide just finished as the No. 1 program in the nation in the 2017 recruiting wars, and, in large part, Tosh Lupoi is credited. 247Sports has named Alabama co-defensive coordinator/outside linebackers coach Tosh Lupoi as Recruiter of the Year for the SEC.

247Sports used a rating system based upon athletes that assistant coaches helped recruit. Lupoi helped Alabama get five prospects who signed with the Crimson Tide on Wednesday, which included three five-star student-athletes. He helped Bama land the nations top running back in Najee Harris, the top dual-threat quarterback in the country in Tua Tagovailoa, the number two outside linebacker in the U.S. in Dylan Moses, phenom long-snapper Thomas Fletcher and a great defensive end in Christopher Allen.

Lupoi joined the Crimson Tide back in 2015 when he was hired by University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban as the outside linebackers coach. Previously he was an assistant coach at Washington and was most recently sought by California to become their next defensive coordinator.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama's connection to this Sunday's Super Bowl LI extends beyond the players on the field. There's going to be a trio of cuties on the sidelines with a Bama connection as well. One former Crimsonette, Mallory Meissner Noel as well as a pair of former Crimson Cabaret dancers, Alex Giannini and Hart Hoeffner, will be performing and cheering with the Atlanta Falcons cheerleaders at NRG Stadium in Houston.

Crimson Cabaret coordinator Marion Powell commented, "As their collegiate coach, I couldn't be prouder of Alex, Hart and Mallory for their academic and professional success and for making the pros."
