TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The University of Alabama men's basketball team fell to the Auburn Tigers for the second time this season, but this time at home in Coleman Coliseum 82-77 in front of a sellout crowd on Saturday night. Though the Crimson Tide was able to cut a 14-point deficit with just over two minutes to play down to only three, the Tigers were able to connect on four important free throws in the final minute to pull out the five-point win.

The Bama defense was unable to contain the three-point shooting of the Tiger offense, with Auburn able to connect on 15 three-pointers (15-of-27) in the game for a 56 percent shooting average. Last night Auburn was able to snap a seven-game losing streak to Alabama at Coleman Coliseum. This is also the first season the Tigers have swept the Tide since the 2009 basketball season.

Three players scored in double-figures for Alabama. Leading the way were freshman Braxton Key and senior Corban Collins with a game-high 17 points apiece. Just one-point back was redshirt freshman Dazon Ingram pumping in 16 points. Ingram also ended the night with five rebounds as well as a career-high five steals on the evening. Riley Norris was just one-point back of scoring in double figures, pumping in nine points on Saturday.

A disappointed men's head basketball coach Avery Johnson said, "[Last night] we weren't at our best on the defensive end, especially defending the three-point line. We are a much better defensive team than we showed [last night] in front of a capacity crowd that gave us their all. We just didn't give them our all. We started off the game lethargic. We had some of the most uncharacteristic turnovers I have ever seen. In terms of just giving them the ball, it wasn't anything to do with their defense in that situation. Give them credit, they made three-point shots.

"We finally decided to go absolutely small, play without a center and just try and trap and, boy, our team showed a lot of heart, a lot of character. Our crowd did not give up on us, most of our fans were still in the building and we appreciate that, but our guys fought hard. I am really proud of the way our guys fought back. I learned a little bit more about this team every day, but we just cannot allow a team to make 15 three-pointers on us."

Alabama shot 43 percent from the field and 25 percent on three-pointers on Saturday night, while the Auburn Tigers hit 51 percent from the floor and 56 percent from beyond the arc. Alabama won the battle of the boards, out-rebounding Auburn 47-28, as well as outscoring the Tigers on second chance points last night, 19-5.

"Some of the three-pointers we didn't even contest," Johnson commented. "We were playing their guys like they couldn't even shoot, but I will do a better job of making sure I explain the scouting report. Hopefully we will get better at executing. When we out-rebounded a team by 20, you should win that game. Unfortunately we didn't do that [last night]."

Alabama's overall record now falls to 13-9 on the season, 6-4 in the Southeastern Conference. Auburn improves to 15-8 overall, 4-6 SEC.

Next up for the Crimson Tide will be the South Carolina Gamecocks on Tuesday, February 7th. Alabama will travel to Columbia, South Carolina for the 5:30 p.m. CT contest which will be broadcast on the SEC Network.

Tight end Malcolm Epps is no longer committed to the University of Alabama, according to his dad in a statement to AL.com. Malcomb is a four-star recruit in the class of 2018 out of Dekaney, Texas, and had committed to the Tide almost a year ago.

Epps told a reporter with 247Sports that Alabama is still his number one school, but he didn't believe he could experience the full recruiting experience if he was a committed player.
