TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The University of Alabama women's soccer team provided plenty of drama on Sunday evening while picking up its first Southeastern Conference win of the year by defeating Mississippi State 3-2 in a double-overtime thriller. It was a perfect way to punctuate Senior Day at The Capstone, with a dramatic win at the Alabama Soccer Complex. Junior Abbie Boswell provided the game-winning goal in the 102nd minute of the contest to propel the Alabama Crimson Tide (9-6-1, 1-5-1 SEC) past the Bulldogs (7-4-3, 1-4-2 SEC).

Crimson Tide soccer head coach Wes Hart said, "We showed a lot of guts tonight, especially after losing four games in a row. It would have been very easy to hang our heads after giving up a two-goal lead, but credit to the girls, they fought their way back.  Abbie Boswell missed a couple of chances at the end of regulation, but the first thing she said when she came off the field after the first overtime was, 'Give me one more chance I'm going to get the goal.'"

Yesterday's overtime victory marked the Tide's first win over the Bulldogs in Tuscaloosa since all the way back to 2010, and the first overtime victory over MSU in program history.

Three of the UA ladies scored goals to give the Tide three points in the Southeastern Conference standings. On a thrilling Senior Day, senior Alexis Mouton opened up the match netting her first goal of the season. It was freshman Casey Wertz scoring her third goal of the year to put the Tide up by two, and Boswell knocked in her sixth goal of 2017 to cap the win.

Mississippi State did outshoot Alabama on the evening 22-17,  and both squads delivered eight shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Kat Stratton picked up her first SEC win of the season in 101:51 minutes and made six saves.

The Crimson Tide will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas for a match on Thursday, October 19th to take on Arkansas at 7 p.m. CT.

CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina – The University of Alabama women's golf team is used to the top slots on the card in any tournament, and the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational is no exception. The Crimson Tide  carded an extraordinary 19-under par third round on Sunday, but fell still was one shot short of victory at the par-72, 6,379-yard Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Duke (283-271-279/833) won the title by a single stroke over Bama (285-279-270/834) finishing at 31-under par after a 9-under par third round. The Crimson Tide (285-279-270/834) finished the match at 30-under par. South Carolina (284-281-281/846) finished third at 18-under par, while Arkansas (288-279-284/851) was fourth at 13-under par. Tournament host North Carolina (289-283-284/856) finished fifth for the tournament at 8-under par. The runner-up finish gives Alabama three top-two finishes in as many outings this season.

Something worth mentioning is the fact that the Tide's final round score vs. par is the second-lowest in school history, behind only the 25-under par third round shot by the UA ladies at the 2016 Mason Rudolph Championship. The third round 270 ranks as the third-lowest round ever shot by a Tide team. And get this, Alabama women's golf head coach Mic Potter's crew has now turned in four of the five lowest rounds in school history in their first three tournaments this season.

Potter commented, "Today was a good day. We got a little too far behind after the first two rounds but we still managed to not only come back but take the lead at one point. The key is that we gave ourselves an opportunity to win on the final day."

It was Bama junior Lauren Stephenson (72-68-66/206) leading the Crimson Tide again on Sunday with a 6-under par 66 to finish in a tie for third place at 10-under par. Sophomore Kristen Gillman (71-69-67/207) tied for sixth place in the tournament, one shot behind Stephenson at 207. Junior Cheyenne Knight (74-71-67/212) carded five-under par on Sunday to tie for 16th at 4-under par. Senior Lakareber Abe (70-71-72/213) finished at 1-under par and tied for 20th place. Freshman Angelica Moresco (72-73-70/215) was 2-under par for the round to finish in a tie for 26th place at 1-under par.

Potter continued, "Lauren has played great all season and Kristen was strong again as well. They've been our leaders all season and were again this weekend. It was nice to see Angelica finish at 1-under and see Cheyenne rebound and shoot 5-under today. Lakareber turned in another solid performance too. We have five very good ball-strikers and I've very pleased with where we are right now. Even though we've only won one of our first three tournaments, we're 86-under par for the season. I'm not disappointed in that at all."

Coming up for Alabama will be the final match during the fall portion of its 2017-18 schedule. This one will be at UNC-Wilmington's The Landfall Tradition October 27-29 at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, North Carolina.
