Shuts Out Ole Miss In Regular Season Finale

OXFORD, Miss. – What a way to end a regular season! The University of Alabama women's soccer team captured its fourth-consecutive Southeastern Conference victory on Thursday evening under the lights by taking down the Ole Miss Rebels 1-0 on a penalty kick. The match victory came in the 106th minute off the foot of Alabama senior Hailey Brohaugh with the game-winning penalty shot. While it was the fourth-consecutive win for the Crimson Tide (12-6-1, 4-5-1 SEC) it was the fifth loss of the season for the Rebels (10-5-3, 3-5-2 SEC).

Incidentally, the tumultuous Thursday victory snapped a six-game losing streak by the Tide to the Rebels and marked the first victory in Oxford since Alabama shut out Ole Miss 3-0 back in 1997. And get this nugget, Bama's four-game winning streak  over SEC opponents is the first such streak in Alabama women's soccer history dating back to 1998. In addition to that, Alabama's 12 wins are the most victories recorded in a single season since 2002.

Alabama soccer head coach West Hart said, "What a huge win for the program, especially looking back at where we were two weeks ago, sitting in 13th place. Our backs have been against the wall, and we have responded well. Winning four games in the SEC is not an easy task, with two of them coming on the road in difficult places. We have beaten teams that I have not beaten before [Mississippi State, Arkansas, Missouri and Ole Miss], so these were all first-time wins for me as a head coach.

"To have finished my first year here in 14th place with only five wins and 12 losses, then improve in year two, finishing in ninth place in the league, and this year improve again, jumping up to seventh in the SEC with a 12-6-1 record shows that we are moving in the right direction and the future is bright at Alabama.

Over all, Ole Miss outshot Bama 13-8, but the Tide managed to eke out a 5-4 lead in shots on goal.
In the first collegiate match of her career, redshirt freshman Alex Plavin started in goal for the Tide and registered four saves and her first conference win at Alabama.

Alabama is now set to compete in the 2017 SEC Tournament in Orange Beach, Alabama this Sunday, October 29th as the seventh seed. The Tide will take on the No. 10 seed Missouri Tigers with a 1 p.m. CT start. Sunday's match will be broadcast live on SEC Network.

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - Thursday afternoon was the final bye week practice session for the University of Alabama football team. The Crimson Tide spent approximately two hours in full pads yesterday afternoon at the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields.

Bama completed its third of three scheduled practice sessions this week as the Crimson Tide continued to focus on improving fundamentals and techniques as it goes up against an improved LSU Tigers football team. The Tide's bye weekend coincides with the UA fall break, allowing the team to spend some time away from the hustle and bustle of university life. Bama returns to the practice field on Monday, October 30th to begin preparations for a showdown with the 23rd-ranked LSU Tigers.

Running back Josh Jacobs (ankle) again didn't practice. Alabama football head coach Nick Saban said that Jacobs would be in a walking boot for a few days but "should be okay."

Defensive lineman Da'Shawn Hand, recovering from a sprained MCL, was practicing yesterday.

The game is set for a 7 p.m. CT kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, November 4th. The game will be broadcast live on CBS. Brad Nessler and Gary Danielson will be making the call from the booth, with Allie LaForce handling sideline duties.

The Crimson Tide leads the series 52-25-5, and is currently riding a six-game winning streak. That streak began with Bama's 21-0 win over the Tigers in the 2012 BCS National Championship.
