CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –  The University of Alabama rowing team continues its fall competition this weekend. The venue and race will be at the 53rd annual Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Mass. on the Charles River. Competing this weekend for the Crimson Tide will be two boats in the Women's' Club 4+ and Women's Club 8+ today.

The Women's Club 4+ will compete first for Alabama at 12:57 p.m. CT today in a field of 54 collegiate and club crews. The Tide Women's Club 8+ will then be competing at 1:37 p.m. CT with 39 other boats in the event.

UA Rowing head coach Larry Davis said, "We have two strong crews entered in the Head of the Charles Regatta this weekend. Each crew will face very tough competition from over 40 international, NCAA Division I and United States club crews. This will challenge us to put our best race on the river, but I believe our athletes are ready for this test.

"In my opinion, both of our crews should contend for top-10 finishes and have a shot at being medalists," Davis said. "We are looking forward to representing Alabama in Boston."

Both of these two crews are both coming off gold-medal finishes at last week's season-opening Chattanooga Head Race. The Crimson Tide captured victory in each of its four races at the event along with three other medalist finishes, including a top-three sweep in the Women's Collegiate 8+.

The Tide will return to Chattanooga in two weeks for the Head of the Hooch on November 4-5. Bama will then conclude its fall season the following weekend back home in Tuscaloosa when it faces UCF on Saturday, November 11th.

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - It was never in any doubt. Despite the fact there were miscues by the Alabama Crimson Tide, the football game was never "up for grabs" in any sense of the phrase. The 100th meeting between the Crimson Tide and the Tennessee Volunteers began with Bama marching down the field on its opening drive, after the Vols failed to sustain its drive, with an eight-play, 63-yard march culminating in a fourth-down dive over the top from one-yard out by Bama back Bo Scarbrough for the Tide to take a 7-0 lead. It was Scarbrough's fifth rushing touchdown of the season, and gave Bama a 10-for-10 fourth down efficiency to that point in the game. The Crimson Tide crushed the Volunteers 45-7 at Bryant-Denny Stadium. extending the win streak to 11 games.

The Alabama offense rushed for 272 yards. That happens to be 164 more yards than the Tide gave up in all to Tennessee. The Volunteers did, however, many to break its scoring jinx. UT had not scored a touchdown in the 10 previous quarters of play, but managed to put one in the endzone against the Tide. To put it in perspective however, the Vols made it no further than the Tide 45 in the first half, then failed to produce points when starting from the Bama 5-yard line in the fourth quarter.

Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Hurts was 13-of 21 through the air for 198 yards. Wide receiver Calvin Ridley was caught 8-of-12 passes for 82 yards. No other Bama receiver had five passes thrown in his direction.

Alabama has a bye this next Saturday.
