University Of Alabama Football
Prepares For Road Trip To Face Texas A&M

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - After a highly successful first five games of the 2017 season, especially the past two blowout victories, the University of Alabama football team returned to practice on Monday for a 75-minute session in shorts and helmets outdoors on a 78 degree afternoon on the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields.

Defensive end D'Shawn Hand (knee) and as well as cornerback Trevor Diggs (foot) were not spotted in practice during the media viewing portion of the practice session. Both sustained injuries in the matchup with Ole Miss this past weekend. Center Bradley Bozeman was at practice but was limited. Some good news though, as linebacker Jamey Mosley was back on the field after missing the game with Rebels due to an illness.

The Crimson Tide travels to College Station, Texas for a matchup with the Texas A&M Aggies this coming Saturday, October 7th. Broadcast time is set for 6:15 p.m. CT live on ESPN with Joe Tessitore, Todd Blackledge and Holly Rowe calling the action for a second consecutive week.

The Aggies will enter Saturday's contest with a 4-1 overall record, 2-0 SEC to take on the No. 1 ranked Crimson Tide. Alabama holds the all-time series advantage, 7-2, and has won the last four games between the two. Bama most recently defeated the Aggies 33-14 last season in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Following practice Alabama football head coach Nick Saban held his weekly Monday press conference. Here is his opening statement:

"This is certainly not the time to relax or be satisfied. We need to focus on things we can do better to improve from our last performance. Regardless of the score, there were still things we can learn from and improve from. This is another one of those division games against a very good team that is going to take the best preparation that we have throughout the week to get ready to play this game.

"We're very pleased that Levi Wallace is the SEC Defensive Player of the Week. You have the offense, defense and special teams guys that we have. As far as updates on personnel, Da'Shawn Hand has just an MCL strain, he will be out and is probably doubtful for at least this game and maybe more. Trevon Diggs has a foot injury and he'll be day-to-day and also is very questionable for this game.

"Texas A&M is the strongest team that we've played to this point, looking at them from a holistic standpoint. They're a very explosive offensive team. They run the ball very effectively and they've got really good running backs. Christian Kirk is maybe the most explosive player/returner/receiver/runner of anybody in our league. Defensively, they're tough to run against. They create a lot of negative plays and they've got really good pass rushers. John Chavis always does a good job of playing very aggressive and physical football. Because of Christian Kirk being a fantastic returner, these guys are very dangerous on special teams. This is by far I think the strongest team we've played to this point all the way around. It's certainly going to be a real challenge for us and test for us being a division game on the road."

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The University of Alabama men's basketball team officially began practice for the upcoming season, and now the women's basketball team has held its first official practice of the 2017-18 season. The Bama women worked out yesterday inside Foster Auditorium on the UA campus. It was the first of 30 practice sessions for the Crimson Tide prior to the first regular season game scheduled for Friday, November 10th.

Though yesterday's practice session pretty much ended as in years and practices past, this one had a surprise element to it. Upon joining in the circle, an envelope was delivered to UA junior Taylor Berry, who upon opening it was ecstatic to learn she had earned a basketball scholarship.

Berry commented, "Reading that letter today was so surreal. Words cannot express how grateful I am. Everyone involved in this program, including the coaches, my teammates and all of the support staff, is amazing, and I am blessed to be a part of this team."

The entire squad from the 2016-17 season returns for Alabama, as well as an additional four newcomers. Bama boasts six seniors (Quanetria Bolton, Alana da Silva, Hannah Cook, Coco Knight, Meoshonti Knight and Ashley Williams), three juniors (Berry, DaiJia Ruffin and Shaquera Wade), four sophomores (Ashley Knight, Jordan Lewis, Amber Richardson and Jasmine Walker) and one freshman (Ariyah Copeland).

Fans will get their first glimpse at the Bama women at the third annual SupeStore Tide Tipoff event, scheduled for Tuesday, October 24th. Doors open at 6 p.m. CT for autographs, with the official start of the event at 7 p.m CT.

The Tide will play its only exhibition game this year on Wednesday, November 1st against Antelope Valley at 7 p.m. CT.

Former Alabama QB Greg McElroy
Draws The Ire Of Crimson Tide Faithful

On something completely meaningless, former University of Alabama quarterback, and SEC Network commentator and color analyst, Greg McElroy has drawn the Ire of many Crimson Tide football fans. McElroy decided, based on his best judgment, that Clemson should be ranked No. 1 and Bama No. 2. He used the "resume to date" as his reasoning.

Forget the fact that had Alabama been the defending National Champion and relegated to fifth place in the preseason polls, then worked up to the No. 2 slot in both major polls, that Alabama fans would have been going slap-out crazy saying that a defending national champion should start the following season at No. 1 until defeated. Also forget that these polls mean absolutely nothing, zilch, nada and zero. It won't be until the College Football Playoff poll comes out that anything has any real meaning.

Also consider the fact that as long as Alabama continues to win, captures the Southeastern Conference Western Division and then the SEC Championship, the Crimson Tide will be in the CFP Playoffs. That's all that's really important.

I submit that the same fans screaming the loudest and writing the nastiest tweets and messages to McElroy are the very ones that just three weeks ago had started to concede the season, complaining about the defense not being up to snuff and that the offence just wasn't what it needed to be to go undefeated, much less win the division or conference or make the playoffs.

In a tweet responding to Bama fans, McElroy included two of the tweets he had received and commented, "I ranked Bama 2nd in a completely meaningless ranking on Oct. 1st"....then "Why are you so mad?"

I saw quite a few of the SEC Network crew picking Clemson No. 1, as well as ESPN folks, but since McElroy was a quarterback at Alabama he was the one that drew much of the heat.

He's doing his job, folks. He has to make a living. You complained that Lou Holtz always picked Notre Dame no matter how good or bad they were, yet you want the Alabama man to do the same.

Get a life, people.
