Crimson Tide Football Holds First Scrimmage; Alabama Baseball Falls To Ole Miss On Saturday

Crimson Tide Football Holds First Scrimmage

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban says he was pleased with yesterday's first spring scrimmage. The coach commented, "All in all, I was really pleased for the first scrimmage and the way things went. We have a lot of things to work on and a long way to go, but I like the attitude of the players in terms of how they were going about what they were doing. There are a lot things that we need to do, and I would say the No. 1 thing we need to improve on is consistency in performance. There were a lot of good things, but a lot of things we need to eliminate and get better at."

Tide quarterback Jalen Hurts was looking good, leading the Bama offense with four touchdown passes and no interceptions. According to Saban, Hurts completed over 50 percent of his passes yesterday. Calvin Ridley was the leading receiver, hauling down eight passes that included three touchdowns. T.J. Simmons caught seven passes himself, while Robert Foster pulled down three passes.

"I thought that the transition was pretty smooth on offense with the things that we were doing and the carryover from what we have done in the past as well as new things that we did, and I thought we were much more effective passing the football today," added Saban. "There were a lot of big plays, a lot of explosive plays throwing the ball, especially play-action passes. I think all of the quarterbacks did a fairly good job, and they all got pretty good opportunities.

"Defensively, I thought that there was a lot of good hitting, some good tackling. I think a lot of the young players made a lot of mental errors, but that's okay. That's why we put them out there. They'll learn from the mistakes that they made. We will have an opportunity to get some of those guys better."

Other good news...Saban said all three quarterbacks did a "fairly good job," so there will definitely be depth under center this coming season.

Bama's 2017 A-Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 22nd  at 2 p.m. CT inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. The A-Day Game is once again free to the public.
