Bama Football Practice Holds 2-Hour Session; Tide Baseball Hosts UAB Tonight; Latest Alabama Track & Field Rankings Released; Crimson Tide Softball To Host UAB Tonight; Alabama Men's Basketball Set To Play In 2017 Veterans Classic




Bama Football Back At It With 2-Hour Practice Session

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team put in another two-hour practice session in full pads Monday afternoon outdoors in very nice conditions at the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields in Tuscaloosa. This was the 10th practice of the spring "season" for the Tide, and comes on the heels of Bama's first scrimmage this past Saturday. There will be one more regular practice this week, Wednesday, before UA holds its second scrimmage of the spring on Friday, April 14th at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

 Safety Jared Mayden continues to recover from a hip injury. He was participating in drills yesterday with the defensive backs, whereas before he was doing some rehab work on the sidelines.

Trevon Diggs remained at cornerback, while Chris Owens was practicing at right guard with the first-team offensive line.

The Crimson Tide's 2017  A-Day Game is scheduled for Saturday, April 22, at 2 p.m. CT, and will, as always, be held at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The A-Day Game is once again free to the public and will be broadcast on ESPN with Joe Tessitore, Joey Galloway and Kirk Herbstreit calling the action. Laura Rutledge will also be on the sidelines with additional reports.
A clear bag policy will once again be in effect for A-Day.

Fans are encouraged not to bring any types of bags inside Southeastern Conference stadiums during football games; however, the following outlines bags that are permitted:


  • Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12";
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc bag or similar); and
  • Small clutch bags - with or without a handle or strap - that do not exceed 4.5" x 6.5" (approximately the size of a hand).
  • An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at a gate designated for this purpose.
  • An approved logo no larger than 4.5" x 3.4" may be displayed on one side of a permissible clear bag.
  • Fans will continue to be able to carry items allowed into the stadium in a permissible clear bag, such as binoculars and cameras.

Alabama Baseball Set To Begin Five-Game Homestand

To Lead Off With UAB Tonight

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team will attempt to get back on the winning track when it begins a five-game homestand this evening with a single midweek contest against in-state foe UAB. This matchup will be the second of the season for the Crimson Tide and the Blazers. The two teams met earlier, on March 21st, in Birmingham. Game time is set for 6 p.m. CT at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa. 

This will be the 74th meeting between the two teams in a series that dates back to 1974. The Tide leads the series 49-24, and is 27-9 in Tuscaloosa. UAB defeated Alabama 8-0 in Birmingham, but then the Tide took the 7-6 win in Tuscaloosa in 2016.

Alabama baseball head coach Greg Goff has a 3-4 overall record against the Blazers.

Following the UAB contest, the Crimson Tide will face the Texas A&M Aggies in a  three-game Southeastern Conference series this Thursday through Saturday. Alabama and A&M will square off at 6 p.m. CT on both Thursday and Friday, then wrap things up at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday. All three games are set to be broadcast live on SEC Network+.

Latest Alabama Track & Field Rankings Released

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The latest rankings from the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) have been released. The University of Alabama men's track and field team holds steady at No. 4, while the women come in at No. 18. The rankings were made available on Monday. The Crimson Tide men's team accumulated 221.40 points while the Alabama women posted 98.85 points.

Regional rankings have also been released. The UA men are ranked No. 1 in the South region this week, while the women are No. 2.

The national team rankings are compiled by a mathematical formulae based on national descending order lists and data taken from previous seasons. The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national team race. Ranking points do not equate with NCAA Championships team points.

The Tide will next travel to Southern California for two meets this weekend. – the Mount Sac Relays on April 13-14 and UCLA's Jim Bush Collegiate Invitational on April 15th.

Alabama Softball To Host UAB Tonight

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - The University of Alabama Crimson Tide (35-7) will host the UAB Blazers (13-25) tonight at Rhodes Stadium for a softball contest scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. CT.

The Crimson Tide currently leads the Southeastern Conference in strikeouts (384) and is second in wins (35), opposing batting average (.165) and hits allowed (162). In conference-only games, Alabama is ranked second in hits (97), batters struck out (101) and wins (10) and is third in runs scored (63), home runs (7), walks (52) and opposing batting average (.214).

Alabama is 20-0 all-time against UAB.

Following tonight's contest, Alabama continues SEC play with a three-game series in Knoxville, Tennessee against the 17th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers.

Alabama Men's Basketball Set To Play 
In The 2017 Veterans Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The Alabama men's basketball team is set to participate in the 2017 Veterans Classic on the CBS Sports Network, according to an announcement on Monday by the U.S. Naval Academy. The fourth annual event is a doubleheader that will feature the Crimson Tide, Memphis, Pittsburgh and host Navy in Annapolis, Maryland. The Veterans Classic will be played on Friday, November 10th, the opening day of the 2017-18 college basketball season.
   
The UA men will tip off the tournament when it faces the Memphis Tigers at 5:30 p.m. CT, followed by Pittsburgh vs. Navy at 8 p.m. CT. Both games will be broadcast on the CBS Sports Network.

University of Alabama men's head basketball coach Avery Johnson said, "The Alabama basketball program is honored to be a part of the 2017 Veterans Classic. As a program, we have great respect for all members of our armed forces and how they dedicate their lives to protecting our country. We look forward to being involved in every aspect of this great event. Not only will we have the opportunity to see the Naval Academy in person, but it also gives us the chance to personally thank the men and women of Annapolis for their daily efforts to keep our country safe. Bama basketball will become the fourth consecutive Southeastern Conference team to compete in the Veterans Classic, following Vanderbilt (2016), Florida (2015) and Tennessee (2014). The Memphis Tigers will be the second team from the AAC (Temple '15) to be invited.
