TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – Alabama baseball just can't seem to get back to .500 overall. The University of Alabama baseball team drops to 13-15 overall, 2-7 SEC after suffering an 8-5 defeat at the hands, or bats, of No. 21 Arkansas on Sunday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide rallied to even the game in the seventh inning, but the Razorbacks put three runners across home plate in the ninth-inning to record the win in the Sunday game, as well as the weekend Southeastern Conference series victory.

UA head baseball coach Greg Goff said, "Tough game, tough game. I hate that we come out on the bad end of that thing. I thought we just made a few too many mistakes and gave up a few runs that we probably shouldn't have. There are things that we have to clean up as a coaching staff, and we have to get our guys ready to make those plays that decide a game."

Though the Razorbacks were able to jump out to an early 3-0 lead, the Tide was able to answer with a scoring barrage of its own, putting three runners across home plate in the bottom of the third to tie the game. However, Arkansas was able to regain the lead in the sixth inning scoring two runners themselves. Once again the Crimson Tide clawed back to plate a pair of runs to again tie it up in the bottom of the seventh. No one was able to score a run in the eighth, but the Hogs connected in the ninth for three additional runs and the win.

Leading the Alabama offense on Sunday was Chandler Avant, finishing the contest four-for-five with a double and two runs scored. He also set a new career-high mark for the number of hits in a game. Kyle Kaufman plated all four of Alabama's RBIs on the day, finishing with a home run and a run scored in his two-for-five outing. Sophomore leadoff man Cobie Vance was two-for-five in the contest, picking up two hits for his team-leading 11th multi-hit game. Chandler Taylor went one-for-three on the day.

Alabama starting pitcher Nick Eicholtz pitched 3.1 innings of baseball, facing 18 batters but had to give way Garrett Suchey (1-3) who suffered the loss. Suchey tossed a season-long 5.0 innings of ball and provided the Crimson Tide with the time to battle back for a victory, but was unable to do so.

Alabama will travel to Troy on Tuesday, April 4th, then return to Sewell-Thomas Stadium to host the Trojans on Wednesday, April 5th. Both games will start at 6 p.m. CT.

NASHVILLE, Tennessee – It was a great weekend performance for the the Alabama men's golf team this weekend as three Crimson Tide golfers placed among the top 10 give the UA men a runner up finish at the 2017 Mason Rudolph Championship. The Tide shot a season-best team total of 29-under par 823 (278-272-273) during the contest. The 54-hole score of 823 is seventh-best in Alabama men's golf history, while the 29-under par ranks as the ninth-lowest total versus par by any previous Bama team.

For the Crimson Tide it was redshirt freshman Josh Sedeno (2nd), junior Lee Hodges (T-3rd) and sophomore Davis Riley (9th) all placing among the top-10 individuals over the three-day tournament. The Mason Rudolph Championship, incidentally, featured nine of the 14 teams ranked among the top-60 in the nation. Tide junior Jonathan Hardee ended the tournament tied for 12th to give Bama four golfers among the top 15. It was the Tide's lowest tournament score and its best finish of the 2016-17 campaign.

UA men's golf head coach Jay Seawell said, "The guys accepted the challenge of what we were facing and I am really proud of how they performed. Playing Vanderbilt on its home golf course and competing against Florida, that's two of the best teams in the country. We talked about it all week and the guys were prepared and handled themselves from the practice rounds and throughout the tournament. They proved that they are as good as any team in the nation this week. That will go a long way for all of us as the season continues to progress."

Sedeno picked up his first top-five finish and best result of his young career with his second-place showing. He carded a tournament total of 9-under par 204 on the strength of three straight rounds of 3-under par 68, all of which are career-best numbers. Sedeno shared the lead entering Sunday's final 18 holes and was competing for medalist honors throughout the day until a bogey on the 17th hole dropped him out of the lead. He narrowly fell to Florida's Sam Horfield (202) by two strokes for the individual title.

Seawell commented, "What a great lift Josh gave us. He finished second and the reason we were good was primarily because of what Josh did. How he handled himself with the lead all day, competing against some of the best amateurs in college golf, was very helpful for our team. I told him when he walked off the 18th green [yesterday]. 'Welcome to Alabama golf.' I think this week will go a long way into his development as a player at the University of Alabama."

Hodges collected his fourth top-10 finish over his last five tournaments with the third-place finish. Hodges carded three consecutive rounds in the 60s on his way to an 8-under par 205 (69-68-68).

Riley picked up his second consecutive top-10 finish with the ninth-place result. He shot rounds of 71-68-68 on his way to a season-low tournament total of 6-under par 207.

Hardee showed up for the Tide as well, collecting his third top-20 result in four events this spring with his 12th-place finish. He closed out play at 4-under par 209 (70-70-69) and has shot below par in nine of the 12 rounds he has played.

It was Bama junior Steven Setterstrom rounding out the Tide in 27th-place with an even par 213 (74-68-71). It was his best 54-hole score of the year and second-best result, just shy of the 24th-place finish at the 2016 Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate.

Redshirt freshman Alex Green tied for 57th overall competing as an individual. He carded a 224 (73-77-74) for the tourney.

The sixth-ranked Florida Gators (822) were able to subdue the Tide to pull out a narrow one-stroke victory. Tournament host and third-ranked Vanderbilt finished third with an 826, while No. 21 Duke (840) was a distant fourth, finishing 14 strokes back of the Commodores. There was a tie for fifth place between No. 26 Missouri and No. 49 Middle Tennessee, with both teams finishing at 843.

Alabama competes in its final regular season event of the 2016-17 next weekend at the Clemson Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played on April 7-9 in Salem, S.C.
