TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama softball team has seemed to be on the skids of late. That skid continued on Friday night as Bama battled Auburn for nearly four hours at Rhoads Stadium, with both teams showing big goose eggs in the "runs" category right up until the ninth inning. It was then that the Auburn Tigers broke the game open, defeating the Crimson Tide last night 3-0.

It was a long battle, with the game officially being played for three hours and 44 minutes, and is also officially the longest game this season for Alabama (39-14, 11-10 SEC). The Tide out-hit Auburn (44-8, 16-6 SEC), 5-3, but then an error on the part of Alabama in the top of the ninth inning allowed the go-ahead run for the Tigers. It was Chandler Dare going two-for-four batting third for UA and Reagan Dykes going one-for-four while hitting a second-inning single to extend her hitting streak to five games. Elissa Brown and Sydney Booker were both one-for-four on the night.

Alabama starting pitcher Alexis Osorio tossed 7.0 innings, throwing a career-high 184 pitches with 18 strikeouts and 11 walks. The loss, however, was charged to Sydney Littlejohn (14-6), giving up the three runs in her relief effort, though all three of the runs credited to her were unearned.

Game two of the weekend series is set for 7 p.m. CT tonight. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN.

Former University of Alabama cornerback Marlon Humphrey has signed his rookie contract with the Baltimore Ravens of the NFL on Friday. Humphrey was chosen as the 16th selection in the 82nd National Football League Draft on April 27th.

The young men had goals. He actively pursued those goals. At his introductory press conference, Humphrey said, "When I was, I think, a freshman in high school, I wrote those goals. I wanted to play in the NFL, I wanted to play in a Pro Bowl, I wanted to play in a Super Bowl and I wanted to be a first-round draft pick, and that came true."

The terms of the contract were not announced, but most rookie contracts are very similar Figure on it being the typical deal of four years with a team option for a fifth season. For years now the salaries for draft picks are based on an NFL's salary cap. Currently a cap of $167 million is used as well as the rookie compensation pool for 2017 in a formula spelled out in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the league and its players association.

Checking with the sports web site spotrac.com, Humphrey's four-year contract should be worth approximately $11.8 million.

Humphrey was the second first-round pick to sign his contract, after former Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey on Thursday.
