TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – According to the poll to which you ascribe, the 5th/7th-ranked Florida Gators defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide in Southeastern Conference baseball action on Sunday by a 10-5 margin. The win came at the home of the Tide, Sewell-Thomas Stadium, and dropped UA to 19-32 overall, 5-22 in the SEC.

Alabama baseball head coach Greg Goff said, "I thought (Florida) answered, for the most part, pretty much all weekend. You can't give a good team freebies. Two of their first three runs got on by walks, and then we made errors. They took advantage of the walks and hit-by-pitches early on. Our guys played hard, but hats off to Florida, they just beat us this weekend."

The Crimson Tide did manage to rally back from a 7-1 whipping to get within two runs, 7-5, after seven innings, but then Florida came bounding back to score three more in the top of the eighth to put the game on ice with the final score, 10-5.

Chandler Avant was one-for-three with two runs on Sunday, while Cobie Vance hit one-for-four with one run and three RBIs. Hunter Alexander had a one-for-three day while contributing one RBI, and Cody Henry went one-for-three in the contest.

Alabama honored the baseball seniors on Sunday, celebrating Senior Day. The Crimson Tide's four seniors are Tanner DeVinny, Nick Eicholtz, Mike Oczypok and Taylor Poe.

Goff said, "I'm just so appreciative of our seniors and what they've done in my first year (at Alabama). They've made my transition easy by being great guys. I'm very thankful for the opportunity to be able to coach them for a year."

Bama baseball will close out the regular season with a three-game series against the Vanderbilt Commodores Thursday through Saturday, May 18-20, in Nashville. Games one and two will begin at 6:30 p.m. CT, with the series finale slated for 1 p.m. CT. All three games will be aired on SEC Network+.

OAK RIDGE, Tennessee – The University of Alabama rowing team captured three event medals on its way to a fourth-place finish on Sunday in Grand Final Races at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This is the rowing team's highest ever medal count as well as highest team finish at the Big 12 Conference Championships.

UA rowing team head coach Larry Davis said, "We expected to do well and, even though it's a young conference squad, they handled the pressure really well. Sometimes when you get in a big environment like a championship regatta, you start seeing nerves in the younger athletes but they handled it very well this weekend. I'm very proud of how poised and professional the team was."

The three medals won by the team came via a silver in the First Varsity 4+ and Third Varsity 8+ and bronze in the Second Varsity 4+. Bama earned a total of 28 points for the fourth-place finish, its highest team finish at a conference championship in program history.

Davis commented, "We got ourselves into the grand final in all five races and our finishes were some of the best we've had throughout the whole squad. Everybody stepped up their game. While we missed out on a top-three finish, we were really close and the team should be hungry heading into next season."

Congratulations are in order for Crimson Tide senior Jennifer Parker and junior Nicole Lane. Both members of the Tide's conference 1V8+ crew earned All-Big 12 honors.

Davis expressed his confidence in the Tide's future growth and potential in the Alabama Rowing program, saying, "When you're young, everything with rowing is exciting, new and different. The key is to keep that energy going through the four years and it looks like this crew has the ability to do that. They accomplished a lot of the goals we had this spring and I think the team understands that. We want to keep building and not be complacent. They understand that and there's a lot of depth that should be coming back."

Alabama placed 30 rowers on the Academic All-Big 12 team this past week. A total of 27 of those 30 earned first-team honors, including six with a 4.0 GPA, the highest total in both categories of any other Big 12 team.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama softball team has earned a top-16 national seed for the 13th-consecutive season, and will be hosting an NCAA Regional in NCAA Tournament play. Tuscaloosa Regional action is scheduled to being this Friday, May 19th, when the  Minnesota Golden Gophers face Louisiana Tech at 1:30 p.m. CT on WatchESPN.com. Then, the Alabama Crimson Tide will battle Albany at 4 p.m. CT, broadcast live on the SEC Network.

Minnesota was also the Big 10's regular-season champion as well, finishing conference play with a 21-1 Big 10 record. The Golden Gophers were ranked No. 4 in both national polls heading into last weekend. Alabama has only faced Minnesota once in program history, a 2-0 Crimson Tide victory back in February 2000 at the Metrodome Classic in Minneapolis.

Louisiana Tech (34-22) was able to win the automatic bid for Conference USA this year, the program's first league title since 2008 and 10th overall. Six Tech players were named to the all-conference team, including Newcomer of the Year Krystal De La Cruz, a sophomore pitcher who leads the team with a 2.00 ERA over 105.0 innings pitched. Alabama has won all four of its meetings against Louisiana Tech, with the last time coming in a doubleheader on March 27, 2007.

Albany (27-16) captured its sixth America East title, and the second in the last four seasons. Senior utility player Elizabeth Snow was name the league's Player of the Year, leading the team with a .439 batting average and 50 hits, including 13 home runs and 46 RBIs.
