What Saban Said

It was an informative edition of Hey Coach on Thursday night as Alabama head football coach Nick Saban spoke of the upcoming battle between the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide and the No. 3 Florida State Seminoles. And other things.

To open things up, Saban mentioned missing his famous caller, Peewee from Grand Bay who was first on the phones.

Concerning FSU, Saban said the things that stood out to him are the skill players and kick returners, as well as the fact that all the starters are back from the Seminoles top 20 defensive unit of a year ago. He said that Florida State is "experienced and talented" and that they "play with toughness and tenacity."

Saban said this thing is about hard work, and compared it to McGregor/Mayweather fight. He commented that McGregor wasn't a boxer, but trained and became one.

Saban talked about his offensive coordinator a little, saying that he likes Brian Daboll's organizational skills at offensive coordinator. He also spoke of liking the combination of spread and pro-style offense that the Tide will have this season under Daboll.

Concerning FSU QB Francois, Saban said that more and more good athletes are QBs now. He's like Jalen Hurts as a passer. Saban commented they would need to push the pocket and keep Francois contained.

Saban provided an update on Raekwon Davis and Josh Jacobs, saying that both have practiced a little more every day. They might be physically ready to play but as to how many reps the two might be able to get in the game remains to be seen because of the missed practice time.

It remains to be seen as to the kind of tempo that FSU will use will use in Saturday's contest. Saban did mention, however, he would be a good test, as there will be some good QBs in the SEC this season so Francois would help a lot in that regard.

If an injury or problem occurred with Jalen Hurts, Saban told one young questioner that Tua Tagovailoa would "absolutely" be ready to step in. Saban said the young freshman had a bright future at Alabama and would definitely be getting in the game in the first few weeks of the season.

Alabama and Florida State is a go. Get ready for a battle!

Roll Tide!
