CLEVELAND, Mississippi – The University of Alabama swimming and diving team swept Delta State on Friday afternoon giving the Crimson Tide the season-opening victory to open the 2017-18 NCAA season. The Tide women defeated Delta State 235-65 while the Bama men came victorious 231-69.

Crimson Tide swimming and diving head coach Dennis Pursley said, "It's always fun to have the opportunity to see freshmen in a collegiate meet for the first time. That was especially true this year because we have such and enormous freshman class. For the most part I was very pleased with what I saw."

Pursley continued, "The thing I'm most pleased with is that we swam tough and our overall team dynamic was very good. They seemed to be bonding, embracing the opportunity, the environment and having fun. That's a good place to be four weeks into the season."

BOLING, Texas - The 2018 recruiting class for the University of Alabama continues to grow. Three-star prospect Vernon Jackson out of Boling, Texas has committed to the Crimson Tide over Texas A&M and TCU. Jackson is being recruited by Alabama running backs coach Burton Burns as well as defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.

Jackson made a visit to The Capstone back in July. Where there, he found the trip enjoyable enough that an extra day was added to his visit.

Jackson plays the quarterback position for his high school, rolling to over 2,000 yards and 33 touchdowns in his 2016 season. However, the Tide is looking to use the 6' 3", 240-pounder as a linebacker, though Burns has even talked about using him as a running back. He is currently considered the No. 17 athlete and No. 388 player overall in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Alabama now has 23 total commits for the class of 2018.
