TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The University of Alabama men's tennis team is looking for big things to happen this coming season. The Crimson Tide released its 2017-18 schedule this week, with eight events scheduled for the fall as well as 27 dual matches in the spring. Of note is the fact that Bama is scheduled to host the 2018 Southeastern Conference Championships next April 25-29.

UA is set to open its season at home with the Crimson Tide Four-in-the-Fall tournament scheduled for September 22-24. This tournament will include such notable tennis schools like Oklahoma, Florida State, Illinois, Notre Dame, Tulane, Memphis and Rice.

Alabama men's tennis head coach George Husack said, "We've got another strong, challenging schedule this season. The Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall will once again kick off our year. We have an outstanding field competing in a format that will guarantee each player four singles and three doubles matches. It allows our guys to not only get their feet wet in the new season, but to face some tough competition early. That way we can build and continue to develop our games throughout the semester. It will also provide our fans with a high level of tennis throughout the weekend."

The coming fall season will close out with the third-annual Country Club of Birmingham Collegiate Invitational set for November 10-12, featuring 11 visiting teams including Kentucky and Tennessee from the Southeastern Conference.

Turning to the spring portion of the schedule, the Tide will start with three consecutive doubleheaders at home, beginning with Alabama State and Jackson State on January 13th.  Other big early dual match season contests include Virginia Tech (January 20th), Penn State (January 28th), Pepperdine (February 9th) and then San Diego State and Lipscomb on February 11th. Bama will then close the non-conference portion of the dual match season with the Blue-Gray Classic (February 23-24), an eight-team invitational that will see the Crimson Tide participate in three dual matches in two days in Montgomery, Alabama.

Husack is pleased with this season's schedule, and believes it will provide some excitement for fans of Alabama men's tennis. Husack said, "We're going to play a lot of matches early on to prepare us for the rigors and benefits of the SEC season. We will also compete in front of our fans a fair amount which will create a lot of momentum and excitement throughout the year. It all culminates with the SEC Championships which we are very much looking forward to hosting this spring."

Alabama will open Southeastern Conference play with Vanderbilt on March 2nd, then the Kentucky Wildcats on March 4th. Of the 17 home dual matches in the spring for the Tide, six will come against SEC competition, including in-state rival Auburn scheduled for March 18th, and then defending SEC champion Georgia on April 6th.

The Crimson Tide will host the Southeastern Conference championships for the first time since 2006 and the seventh time overall.
