Tide Self-Reports NCAA Violations; 4-Star Devonta Smith Places Tide In His Top 4; Crimson Tide QB Blake Barnett Is Engaged; 2017 Alabama Football Commits

Crimson Tide Self-Reports 19 Secondary NCAA Violations

The University of Alabama athletic department has reported 19 secondary NCAA violations that occurred during the 2015-16 calendar year.

Five of the 19 violations reported stem from the football team. It has been reported that a trophy was "temporarily placed in an area where prospects taking an official visit would be."That "resulted in an impermissible recruiting decoration of an area."

Other violations were equally as innocuous, such as a former player providing free training to a current player, coaches sending text messages to prospects and a coach calling a prospect for a second time in a week.

The men's basketball team self-reported two secondary violations, one of which was a men's basketball coach retweeting multiple posts on Twitter that "mentioned specific non-institutional athletics events and prospective student-athletes' teams" during the July evaluation period.
