Number 15 was so sweet. All, I suppose, are sweet, but this was the "Dream Matchup." This was the one that sportswriters and sportscasters were clamoring for. The was the past colliding with the present and setting the stage for Notre Dame's rise to national prominence again.

Then a crimson tidal wave slammed into them and took the fight completely out of them

The Univerisity of Alabama Crimson Tide captured its 15th National Championship in 2012, culminating in a BCS bowl victory over the Fighing Irish of Notre Dame on December 7, 2013. The climax for most college football prognosticators was anti-climatic as they sat stunned at how Alabama manhandled Notre Dame.

The 2012 football season was the Crimson Tide's 118th overall season of playing college football, 79th as a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and the 21st within the SEC Western Division. Alabama head coach Nick Saban was in his sixth year at the helm of Bama. The Tide finished the season with a record of 13 wins and 1 loss (13–1 overall, 7–1 in the SEC), as SEC champions and as consensus national champions after defeating Notre Dame.

The Crimson Tide entered the 2012 season as the defending national champions, ranked as the number two team in the nation and as a favorite to win the Western Division and compete for both the SEC and national championships. Alabama opened the season with nine consecutive victories, including one over the Michigan Wolverines at a neutral site, as well as a come-from-behind victory on the road at LSU. The Tide was upset by the Texas A&M Aggies in the tenth game of the season, dropping all the way down to fourth in the rankings. Many thought the run for a national championship repeat was over at that point. However, after a series of upsets across college football land, as well as victories in the final three games that included winning the SEC Championship over the Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama qualified for the 2013 BCS National Championship Game against Notre Dame, where they won 42–14 and captured the 2012 national championship.

The 2012 Alabama Crimson Tide national championship team proved once again that it was no fluke what Nick Saban doing at Tuscaloosa, and that "The Process" was sound, disciplined college football. The 2012 Alabama defense led the nation in total defense, scoring defense and rushing defense and ranked 7th in passing defense. Offensively, the Alabama offense ranked 12th in scoring offense, 16th in rushing offense, 31st in total offense and 75th in passing offense. Starting quarterback A.J. McCarron was ranked first nationally in pass efficiency. Several players were recognized for their individual accomplishments on the field. Starting center Barrett Jones won both the Rimington Trophy and the William V. Campbell Trophy, and was named as the Academic All-America of the Year; defensive coordinator Kirby Smart was named the 2012 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) FBS Assistant Coach of the Year. Also, five players were named to various All-America Teams with Jones and C. J. Mosley being consensus selections and Dee Milliner and Chance Warmack being named unanimous selections.

LB Will Ignont No Longer A Silent Commit To Bama

It would appear that Buckhorn High School four-star linebacker Will Ignont is no longer looking at Alabama football as a viable choice to continue his football and academic career. The youngster had said he was silently committed to the Crimson Tide for a few months, but now has completely overhauled his focus in in his recruiting process.

The 6-foot-2, 238-pound Ignont said Thursday in an interview with AL.com that he's now "really liking" LSU, Michigan, UCLA, Georgia and Auburn. Could it be that the young man doesn't like that there are already three commits to the Tide as linebackers?

Ignont particularly mentioned the fact that LSU has no commitments as yet in the linebacker position he is coveting. He told AL.com he didn't want to "be one-dimensional" when he could "go out of the state and have fun."

The youngster said he still wants to make his commitment announcement before the start of his senior season.
