Andrew Nemec of The Oregonian says that, although highly touted quarterback prospect Tua Tagovailoa is committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide, he is still keeping his options open. Nemec writes that Tagovailoa will take all five of his official visits, including one already planned for USC.

"Alabama and USC are the only official visits I know so far, but I know I'm going to take all five of my officials," Tagovailoa told Nemic.

Additionally, again according to Nemec, Tagovailoa likes the looks of the Oregon Ducks, although he says he hasn't kept in tough that much. The 6' 1", 215-pounder grew up an Oregon Ducks and Marcus Mariota fan and still hasn't completely counted out the possibility of a future in Eugene.

Tagovailoa commented, "Oregon is still up there, but I'm not too sure with everything. I haven't gotten to see the campus and I haven't stayed in contact with the coaches that well, so it's kind of hard to tell."

Right now the commitment to Alabama is firm. We'll see after all five official visits have been completed.

As most of the followers of college football know, The Opening took place this past week in Beaverton, Colorado at the Nike campus. Here was a gathering of the nation's best high school recruits, ready to "strut their stuff" and show the colleges and universities what they're made of.

Friday, at the end of the sessions, several teams of "committed" student-athletes decided to represent their schools and conferences in a friendly Tug of War competition.

University of Alabama Crimson Tide commits stepped up big in the games. Some of those doing the pulling for the Tide were Najee Harris, Tua Tagovailoa, VanDarius Cowan and Alex Leatherwood. The future Bama boys cut a swath through the competition, defeating the boys for LSU in the quarterfinals, Georgia in the semifinals and finally the Pac-12 commits to take the overall victory.

Five-star linebacker prospect Baron Browning is planning an official visit with The University of Alabama. Baron, the No. 8 overall recruit in the country and No. 2 outside linebacker, plans to come to T-Town for the Iron Bowl against Auburn, and then announce his commitment on November 29th, which also happens to be his dad's birthday.

Back in April the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Browning listed Alabama in his top 10, and is planning to cut it back to six soon. The other nine schools were LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas, UCLA and USC.

"I talk to (outside linebackers) Coach (Tosh) Lupoi all the time," Browning told Drew Champlin of AL.com. "I always talk with (commits) VanDarius Cowan and Alex Leatherwood. They are also on me hard recruiting me. I've got nothing but love for Alabama."

Football isn't all that the young Browning is looking at. He said his parents really want him to get that degree. He seems to agree with that, and believes Alabama can help there too.

Browning is also planning official visits to Notre Dame, USC and Ohio State.

Terry Rooney has officially joined the Alabama Crimson Tide baseball coaching staff, according to head baseball coach Greg Goff. Rooney has been named the associate head coach, with primary duties to work as the baseball team's pitching coach while also assisting in Tide baseball recruiting. Rooney has spent the last eight years as the head coach of the University of Central Florida baseball team, and has rolled up 20-plus years as a coach.

In his announcement, Goff stated, "There is no doubt that this is a huge day for our program. To have the opportunity to hire a guy with the coaching pedigree like Terry Rooney is tremendous. He has experienced so many things in his coaching career from working his way up to being a top assistant in the SEC and helping take a team to Omaha, to becoming a well-respected head coach. It is a great opportunity for our program to have someone with that kind of experience come to be a part of what we are building at the University of Alabama.

"The thing I am so excited about is Terry's ability to recruitl. Everywhere he's been, he has recruited top-10 classes and that's why I was really attracted to what he brings to our program. In addition, the development that Terry has done with his pitching staffs at every stop is good as anybody in the country."

Rooney played college ball for the Radford (Virginia) Highlanders.

A native of Fairfax, Virginia, Rooney and his wife, Shaun, have been married about 8 1/2 years. They have one daughter, Milly Margaret, who was born in April of 2014.
