Alphonse Taylor Arrested & Charged With DUI Yesterday

It would appear that Paul Finebaum will have a little more to discuss with University of Alabama head coach Nick Saban when they get together tomorrow on The Paul Finebaum Show. Alabama redshirt senior offensive guard Alphonse Taylor was arrested Sunday and subsequently charged with driving under the influence, according to the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

Taylor was placed in the Tuscaloosa County jail, with the bond set at $1,000.

This will only add to the already-existing problem the young man has with the head coach. He was having weight and conditioning issues, and Saban said that Taylor was "going to continue to be on the second team if he doesn't get his weight down and get in shape."

No word on how much weight the youngster had managed to lose, but right now that issue is a moot point, except to possibly add more discipline to that which is surely coming over this DUI.

The 6-foot-5, 345-pound Taylor started all 15 games at right guard for the Crimson Tide during the 2015 national championship season. He was named a preseason second-team All-SEC pick last week at SEC Media Days.

While on a visit for camp at The University of Alabama, four-star defensive tackle Akial Byers out of Fayetteville, Arkansas committed to play football for the Alabama Crimson Tide. The 6' 4", 275-pounder is ranked at the No. 13 tackle in the nation as well as the No. 2 prospect in Arkansas.
Akial Byers, a four-star defensive tackle from Fayetteville, Ark., has committed to Alabama while on a visit for camp.

Last season Byers collected 69 tackles, including 11 for loss and three sacks as a junior for Fayetteville High School. He holds numerous offers, including from South Carolina, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Florida State.

This commitment brings Alabama back to 15 for the class of 2017.

Alabama touts a combined winning percentage of .630 in the two sports with a combined post-season win percent of .605. They list four as the number of seasons unranked. Of course they list four national titles since the turn of the century, all in football.

Over the past 16 years, Alabama basketball has had only one season under .500, and during that same number of years the average recruiting class ranking is 29th.
