The Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team has been installed as the No. 10 seed in the 2016 Southeastern Conference Basketball Tournament, according to the league office. The tournament will be held March 9-13 in Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. The Tide will open with seventh-seed Ole Miss on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. CT and can be seen on the SEC Network.

The two teams met only once this season in the Crimson Tide's first SEC contest of the season. That game was played at the Pavilion at Ole Miss, with Ole Miss coming away with a 74-66 victory. Alabama is 17-13 on the season and Ole Miss is 20-11.

The winner of the opening-round contest will advance to face second-seed Kentucky on Friday evening at 6 p.m. CT.

Men's Basketball Loses Season Finale At Georgia

The late-season woes continued yesterday for the Alabama men's basketball team as they lost their final regular season game to the Georgia Bulldogs 70-63 in Athens.

The Tide (17-13, 8-10 SEC) were able to keep the game close but never got that needed spark to take hold of the contest.

Alabama men's basketball head coach AVERY JOHNSON said, "When you get beat up on the boards like we got beat up tonight (Saturday), you're going to have a hard time winning. You're going to have to hit more threes than we did tonight and they beat us up on the boards pretty good. When you give up that many offensive rebounds it is going to be a hard time. But we had our chances. We're in the game and then Arthur (Edwards) goes down with the cramps and we turned the ball over a couple of times there at the worst times. It was another game where we're right there in the last seven or eight minutes of the game and just couldn't pull through."

The Crimson Tide will face the Ole Miss Rebels in the opening round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament this coming Thursday, March 10 (see accompanying story). Coach Johnson will end the regular season with a 17-13 record, just one shy of matching WIMP SANDERSON back in the1980-81 season for both the number of conference wins as well as overall wins as a first-year head coach at UA.

The Crimson Tide baseball team split a pair of games yesterday in Cary, North Carolina at the USA Baseball-Irish Classic. Alabama opened the day with an 8-4 victory over Niagara. Bama wasn't so lucky, however, in the second contest, falling 2-1 to the eighth-ranked Wolfpack of North Carolina State. Alabama is now 9-2 on the young season and sits at 2-1 this weekend in the tournament.

Alabama baseball head coach MITCH GASPARD commented, "Overall our guys played with good energy for 18 innings in our first doubleheader of the year. I like a lot of the qualities in our team, and I thought we fought and battled extremely hard all day long. I think we've gotten better this weekend, and I like the direction that this team is headed."

Alabama will meet Brown this morning at 11 a.m. CT to complete the tournament.

Softball Splits A Pair At Easton Crimson Classic

The Alabama softball team yesterday split a pair of games at the Easton Crimson Classic. The Lady Tide defeated DePaul 12-4 in their first contest of the day, but fell to North Dakota State 2-1 as a late-game rally came up short.

The Crimson Tide (19-2) was able to score 12 runs on 14 hits in their opener with DePaul (3-11), with home runs coming from REAGAN DYKES and PEYTON GRANTHAM. However, the Bama bats fell virtually silent in the game with North Dakota State (9-8).

DEMI TURNER had a team-leading four hits between the two contests.
