The fourth-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide women's golf team built itself as much as a 10-stroke lead en route to winning the title yesterday at the Darius Rucker Invitation in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The Tide carded a closing round of 8-over 292 on Sunday to take the win. Overall Bama had a 54-hole total of 868 (+16). Winning medalist honors for the Tide was freshman CHEYENNE KNIGHT who carded an even-par 213, her very first tournament crown.

Alabama women's golf head coach MIC POTTER said, "It was a little bit of a rough start. We three-putted a couple times early and EMMA TALLEY doubled No. 3. It always worries me when she's not in the ballgame for us. But she battled back and made a couple of birdies, so we had five girls all playing fairly well. NICOLE MORALES' final round of even par was really big for us, and then Cheyenne winning the tournament. I can't say enough about those two."

The Crimson Tide now has two tournament victories under their collective belt, and the first of the spring outings. Alabama started the season with a victory at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship in Franklin, Tennessee. This is the third win of the Darius Rucker Invitational for Bama. The two privious wins were in 2012 and 2013.

Cheyenne Knight stated, "I was definitely feeling the pressure. I just tried to say focused, take it one shot at a time. I can't control what the other competitors are doing. I really just tried to stay in the moment and not get too ahead of myself. I really hit some good shots and good putts on the back nine."

The Tide now has three weeks off before making the trip to Athens, Georgia for the 2016 Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, which begins Friday, April 1. That tournament will be played on the UGA Golf Course.

It was a big win for the Alabama Crimson Tide women's softball team. And an even bigger one for Alabama pitcher ALEXIS OSORIO as she struck out a career-high 16 batters to help lead the girls from Bama to a 5-0 shutout win over Louisiana-Monroe yesterday in the finale of the Easton Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa. Osorio now boosts her season to 5-0, while the Crimson Tide improves to 20-2.

Coming up next for Bama is in-state Samford (11-7). The contest at Rhoads Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m CT on Tuesday, March 8th. The game will be aired live on the SEC Network with Mark Neely and Amanda Scarborough handling the call.

Baseball Earns 2-0 Victory Over Brown

The Alabama men's baseball team (10-2 overall) rallied in the ninth to shut out Brown 2-0 yesterday  during the final day of the USA Baseball-Irish Classic in Cary, North Carolina. Bama was 3-1 in the three-day tournament.

"We were outstanding on the mound again today," commented Alabama head coach MITCH GASPARD. "RAY (CASTILLO) gave us a good start, BROCK (LOVE) was solid in the middle and (KYLE) CAMERON was really good on the back-end. They kept us in the game, and then the offense came through late."

Bama will get a four-day rest before returning to action in a single contest against the No. 8 Oregon Ducks this Thursday, March 10th. Game time is 6:30 p.m. CT. Following Thursday's game, Alabama will host the Houston Cougars for a three-game series over the weekend.

Alabama football lost another commitment a few days ago. This one was 2017 4-star quarterback Jake Fromm out of the state of Georgia. In fact, Fromm has decided to stay in-state and committed to new Georgia head coach Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs. Fromm had committed to Alabama back in October 2015.

From made his announcement on Twitter, and specifically thanked University of Alabama head coach NICK SABAN, and then tweeted his announcement for his new college choice. Fromm tweeted, "Officially a Dawg!! Feels good to be Home!!!"

Reports were that Fromm had recently visited Athens and really liked the situation there with the new coaching staff. He also said he believes Georgia will give him the best opportunity to play in the NFL one day.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Fromm is the No. 4 pro-style quarterback in the 2017 class.
