Women's Basketball Back In Action Tonight; Alabama Sweeps Auburn 3-0 In Volleyball Action; Spencer Richey Captures Tennis Tournament Singles Title; Crimson Tide No. 3 In A.P. & Coaches Polls

Women's Basketball Back In Action Tonight

     The University of Alabama Crimson Tide women's basketball team will play it's second game of the season tonight. It will the second home game, but first inside their own Foster Auditorium. Alabama (1-0) hosts Appalachian State (0-1) scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. CT.

     All members of the military and veterans will receive free admission to this evenings contest, and only $3 for each additional family member. A military I.D. will be required in the Tide's Salute to Service

     Also of note is the $3 admission for fans donating a canned food or non-perishable item. This is part of the Tide's Beat Auburn Beat Hunger campaign.

     This evening's contest will be the fourth between Bama and State, and the first since 1996. The Tide won the three previous contests, outscoring the Mountaineers 303-220.

     The Crimson Tide opened its season last Friday by completely dominating Alabama A&M 96-94. Seven Bama players scored in double figures, led by Quanetria Bolton with a career-high 19 points. Including Bama's 93-34 exhibition win over Faulkner, this is back-to-back games scoring over 90 points.

Volleyball

Alabama Sweeps Auburn 3-0

     Senior setter Sierra Wilson had captured first place in career assist at the University of Alabama as she led the Crimson Tide volleyball team in a 3-0 sweep of the Auburn Tigers on Sunday afternoon in Foster Auditorium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

     Wilson's career total is now 5,581 after her 32-assist performance in the match against Auburn. The previous record in assists at Alabama was held by Brigitte Slack with a career total of 5,581 set back in 2007.

      The sweep of Auburn on Sunday is the second for the Crimson Tide in SEC play this season. Alabama (14-14, 8-6 SEC) took the first two sets 25-16 and 25-20. Auburn (13-11, 5-7 SEC) then came bounding back and held a late 23-20 lead in the third set before Bama was able to go on a 6-1 run to close it out with a 26-24 win.

     Junior Krystal Rivers had a match-high 15 kills and a .364 hitting percentage. Also in double figures was sophomore Kat Hutson with 11 kills on 29 swings. The Tide scored its highest total of aces in SEC play this year with eight against the Tigers. Sohomore Leah Lawrence led Bama in that catagory with three aces.

     The Crimson Tide makes its final road trip of the regular season to face the Georgia Bulldogs and the South Carolina Gamecocks. The Georgia (5-21, 0-14 SEC) matchup is this Friday, November 20th at 6 p.m. CT. The South Carolina (11-16, 4-10 SEC) match is on Sunday, November 22nd at 12:30 p.m. CT.

Men's Tennis

Spencer Richey Captures Tournament Singles Title

     Alabama freshaman Spencer Richey of the Alabama tennis team won his singles main final draw on Sunday at the CCB Collegiate Invitational as the the Tide tennis team wrapped up its fall season. All-in-all Bama won 21 singles and doubles matches.

     Richey had to face team mate Sam Edwards (sophomore) in the final draw. Richey captured the win with 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 sets for the title.

     Four schools from the Southeastern Conference are in this week's A.P. Poll. ALABAMA is the highest ranked at No. 3, followed by Florida (8), LSU (17) and Ole Miss (25). One SEC school fell out of the poll, Mississippi State (20). An additional four SEC received votes in this week's poll, and are Arkansas, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and Georgia.
