The University of Alabama football coaching staff honored 10 players for their performance in Saturday's 30-16 shellacking of then-No. 2 LSU. They are Kenyan Drake, Derrick Henry, Ryan Kelly and Cam Robinson on the offense, Dillon Lee, Reggie Ragland and A'Shawn Robinson for the defense, and for the special teams it was Tony Brown, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Adam Griffith.

Henry was honored due to an outstanding game this past Saturday turning in a truly Heisman-worthy performance. He achieved his second 200-plus yard game as well as career-high rushes. He had 38 rushing attempts and achieve 210 yards on the night. He scored three touchdowns, now crossing the goal line a total of 17 times this season, leading the Southeastern Conference and tied for first nationally. His 17 rushing touchdowns is the third-most in Tide history. He also extended his streak to 14 in consecutive games with a rushing touchdown.

Drake was definitely turned on in the LSU contest, turning in his best performance thus far in the season. He produced 163 all-purpose yards, including 68 yards rushing, 55 yards on kickoff returns and 40 receiving yards.

Kelly, the SEC Lineman of the week,  graded out at a team best as well as personal season-best 92 percent, recorded two knockdown blocks, and didn't allow any sacks or quarterback hurries. Kelly and Robinson led an Alabama offensive line that provided time for 434 yards of total offense. Saban said Robinson probably had his best game of the season.

Lee had three tackles on the night, a sack, as well as an interception of the night. Saban commented that Lee's interception was a turning point in the game. That play came on the very first play from scrimmage in the second half while the Tide held to a 13-10 lead. The interception gave Bama the ball at LSU's 28 yard line.

This was the sixth consecutive week for Ragland to be recognized by the coaches. He turned in three tackles, a sack and a pass breakup.

A'Shawn Robinson had three tackles on the night, two stops for a loss, a pass deflection and an electrifying blocked extra point.

Brown turned in a big hit stopping LSU return-man Derrius Guice at the Tiger nine-yard line. He was a big part in limiting LSU to only 2.5 yards on two punt returns.

Fitzpatrick came through with two special teams tackles. One of those was an excellently-timed hit to stop Tiger punt returner Donte Jackson for a one-yard loss. His other came on a kick return, tacking Guice at the LSU 10-yard line.

Griffith, the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week, turned in a three-for-three in field goals Saturday night against LSU. He gave the Tide a 13-10 lead going into the half with a booming 55-yard go-ahead field goal. The kick is tied for the longest in Alabama history without the use of a tee. Griffiths kickoffs were spot-on this past weekend, with three of seven producing touchbacks.

Kelly And Griffith Honored By SEC

Two players from the University of Alabama football team were honored yesterday by the Southeastern Conference. They are senior center Ryan Kelly and junior place kicker Adam Griffith. Both come as a result of their efforts in the Crimson Tide's victory over the LSU Tigers this past Saturday night.

Kelly was named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week for the first time in his career. He helped open holes for the running backs as well as protecting quarterback Jake Coker. He recorded two knockdown blocks and did not allow a sack or any quarterback pressures from his position.

Griffith was named Southeastern Conference Special Teams Player of the Week. He connected on three field goals and three extra point attempts producing 12 points for the Tide. His longest field goal went for 55 yards, tying the Alabama school record for longest field goal without a tee. It ties for second overall.  He averaged 64.0 yards on seven kickoff, good for 448 yards. He also produced three touchbacks on kickoffs.

Football Practice

Tide Prepares For Mississippi State

The Alabama Crimson Tide was back out on the practice field yesterday afternoon under gray skies for approximately 90 minutes at the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields in preparation for this Saturday's match up with the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Alabama worked on fundamentals, timing and ball control in the workout. Overall the workout was spirited and accomplished a lot. Bama began working on the game plan for Mississippi State.

Running back/receiver Kenyan Drake, while in uniform, didn't participate as much in drills yesterday. According to head coach Nick Saban, Drake would be putting in a light work day after having his "bell rung" in the contest with LSU. He's expected to be just fine.

Alabama faces another top-25 challenge this week against a State team with an overall 7-2 record, 3-2 in SEC play. MSU's most recent win was a 31-13 victory over Missouri last Thursday night. State's coach, Dan Mullen, is 53-33 as the skipper in Starkville.

The Crimson Tide leads the series 77-18-3, as well as winning the last seven contests between the two. State was ranked number one last season when the pair met, with Alabama coming out on top 25-20. It was the Tide's seventh win over a Number One team team, and the fourth under head coach Nick Saban.

The game is scheduled to air live on CBS at 2:30 p.m. CT and will be the fourth Alabama game in four weeks, and fifth overall, broadcast by CBS this season. Verne Lundquist will again be calling play-by-play, Gary Danielson providing the color commentary and then Allie LaForce handling sideline reporting duties.

In their only exhibition game of the 2015-16 season, the Alabama women's basketball team easily defeated the Faulkner Eagles last night inside Foster Auditorium in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama women's head basketball coach Kristy Curry said, "I loved the grit that we showed tonight and thought we played really, really hard. It was great balance across the board. I think everyone scored, and we got a lot of quality minutes."

A pair of underclassmen led the way in scoring. Freshman Shaquera Wade pumped in 17, as did sophomore Meoshonti Knight. Wade, in fact, recorded a double-double in her first night on the floor in the crimson and white, 17 points and 10 rebounds. She was .500 in her shooting from the floor, 8-for-16. Knight topped her previous career-high game of 16 points with the 17 she hit last night.

"I felt like I needed to get off to a better start this season, my teammates and I," Knight said. "Offensively, that's something that has kind of always been there and defensively, I've been striving to work hard on that end, so that's where those points were coming from."

Also reaching double figures last night were a pair of sophomores, Hannah Cook and Quanetria Bolton. Cook had 15 points on the evening and Bolton pumped in 10.

Overall on the evening, the Crimson Tide was 37 of 77 in shooting (48.1 percent) while defensively holding Faulkner to a mere 17.2 percent, hitting only 11 of 64 shots and forcing the Eagles into 26 turnovers. Those turnovers produced 28 points for Bama.

In the paint, Alabama had 49 points on the night. Faulkner was able to only generate 10 points. The Tide had a massive lead in rebounds with 61, and committed only 12 turnovers.

The regular season begins this Friday night for Alabama women's basketball. The Tide takes the court at 4:30 p.m. CT hosting Alabama A&M at Coleman Coliseum. They lead off in a double header with the men's basketball team.
