The University of Alabama soccer team had three players honored yesterday when the SEC office announced its postseason awards on Sunday. They are senior defender and captain Abby Lutzenkirchen, Celia Jimenez and Emma Welch.

Lutzenkirchen was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year, as well as being selected to the league's second team. This is the second year in a row an Alabama player has received the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year award. Last season's recipient was Laura Lee Smith. The only other Tide soccer player to earn the honor was Libby Probst in 1995.

Last week Lutzenkirchen was named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District 5 first team. She has a 3.96 GPA in the classroom with a public relations major. During her career at the Capstone she has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll three times.

One of the Crimson Tide's top contributors for the past four years, Lutzenkirchen has finished her career with 6,713 playing minutes, the most in UA Soccer history. She ranks seventh in program history for her starting and playing in all 75 games during her career. She and Jimenez were the only two Tide players to start and play in all 19 matches.

Jimenez was also one of Bama's top contributors this season. She led the team in points with 10, had four goals, two assists and 55 shots. Her 55 shots tied her for seventh-most in a season in Tide history.

Welch was named an SEC All-Freshman team performer, having been the only freshman to play in all 19 games for the Crimson Tide. She led the team with four assists during this season, the most assists in a season by a freshman in program history.
