1992 Football National Championship

And then there were a dozen. Today we take a brief look at University of Alabama football's 12th National Championship.

The University of Alabama claimed its 12th National Championship in football in 1992 under the leadership of head coach Gene Stallings. The Crimson Tide finished its regular season undefeated at 11-0-0. Next came the inaugural Southeastern Conference Championship game pitting the University of Alabama against the Florida Gators. Alabama won their 20th SEC title against the 12th-ranked Gators 28-21 and brought the Alabama record to a perfect 12-0-0.

Alabama received an invitation to play Miami in the January 1, 1993 Sugar Bowl and was a heavy underdog. The Crimson Tide humiliated the Hurricanes 34-13 to finish the season at 13-0-0 and capture the national championship. The outstanding player of the game was Derrick Lassic.
