Greg Goff: We're Going To Own This State
Greg Goff
The University of Alabama's new head baseball coach, Greg Goff, says that when it comes to recruiting "We're going to own this state. We're not going to lose in this state."
The NCAA limits baseball scholarships to 11.7 per team. The Crimson Tide and in-state schools are said to be at a disadvantage however. Schools can supplement scholarships with lottery money, something the state of Alabama doesn't have. "To be honest with you, at this level at the University of Alabama,
we're going to go out and get the kids we want," Goff said. "That's the
biggest thing for me. I don't think it's a disadvantage or anything like
that."
Alabama Director of Athletics Bill Battle said, "You play the hand with which you were dealt. We like to
have some other things. We can recruit better students, and they can get
academic or presidential scholarships. There's things that you can do.
And we just have to get more out of the ones we've got."
Goff, as well as Battle, believe Alabama has a lot to offer despite not having lottery money available to supplement recruiting. The quality of education that can be received at UA, various other scholarship avenues, and the all-new "Joe", Bama's new baseball facilities.

We are taking a brief look at each of The University of Alabama football's 16 national championships. Today we are looking at the seventh.
The seventh National Championship for the University of Alabama in football came in 1964, and the second such accomplishment for legendary head coach Paul Bear Bryant. The Alabama Crimson Tide completed the regular season with an unblemished 10-0-0 record and handily captured the championship of the Southeastern Conference. This was the year of Joe Willie Namath as quarterback. The Crimson Tide played the Texas Longhorns in the 1965 Orange Bowl, losing the game 21-17 to end the season at 10-1-0. Joe Namath was the outstanding player of the game despite the loss.
Several organizations awarded the national championship to Alabama, including the Associated Press, United Press International, and Litkenhous. This was the year that the controversy of awarding a national championship based only on the regular season came to the forefront, and because of that the Associated Press began awarding the championship after the bowl games beginning with the 1965 season.
