The University of Alabama football program has picked up its second 2017 commitment in just a couple of days, bringing the total of young men choosing the Crimson Tide to 11 prospect-commits. 4-star quarterback Mac Jones out of Bolles High School in Jacksonville, Florida flipped his commitment last night from the Kentucky Wildcats to the Crimson Tide of Alabama.

Jones is currently camping at Alabama this week. He made his announcement known after a good day yesterday at the Capstone.

The young Jones is currently ranked as the No. 14 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2017 according to 247Sports composite rankings. He is the No. 41 recruit from the state of Florida, as well as the No. 284 recruit nationally.

That now makes two quarterback commitments for the 2017 recruiting class. Jones joins four-star QB recruit Tua Tagovailoa out of Hawaii as signal-callers for the Tide.

Upon the announcement of Jones' commitment, Tagovailoa tweeted out a greeting and congratulations message:

Congrats brotha! Welcome to the tide family! @macjones2017 😌🙏🏼🐘

Tide Basketball Coach Avery Johnson High On Program

University of Alabama men's head basketball coach Avery Johnson is about to begin his second season at the helm of the Crimson Tide. It is his first college head coaching position, yet he is handling it as though he has done it for a lifetime. Of course his experience as a college and pro basketball player, as well as NBA assistant and head coach goes a long way toward honing the skills necessary to deal with young men.

Johnson was the keynote speaker last night for the annual gala of the  100 Black Men of Greater Mobile at the Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center. In addition to speaking at the event, he took a little time with reporters to promote Alabama basketball.

Bama men's basketball head man knows that football has been and will be king at the University of Alabama, but hopes that he will be able to elevate the program in the hearts and minds of Crimson Tide fans. Johnson said, "What we're trying to become is a great partner with football, so instead of being in football's shadow, hopefully, we can walk side by side. That's why (Alabama football) coach (Nick) Saban and I meet all the time. He helps me tremendously with recruiting. I help him – not that they need it. But we're great partners, and that's what we're hoping – we can one day walk alongside of Alabama football."

Alabama basketball has been lacking in getting young men into the NBA draft, and Johnson addressed that fact, saying, "Here's the deal: It's not just important to get a guy in the draft this year. What's important is to get a guy in the draft and him have some stability in the NBA. So we can get a kid that's in the draft, and he spends one year in the NBA, it doesn't matter. We want him to have some stability.

"And also look at what happened with Retin Obasohan, a kid that came out of nowhere. Averaged four points a game. Now he's up there, he's going to work out for 11 or 12 NBA teams. That was unheard of coming into the season with all of his pre-draft workouts, and he's doing an excellent job."

Johnson is hoping to have the non-conference portion of its schedule ready soon for this upcoming season of Alabama Crimson Tide Men's Basketball. Once complete he plans to release the information.

Johnson said, "Hopefully, in a week or two, we'll have it released. We're excited about it. It's not going to easy, just like our non-conference schedule wasn't easy last year. We've got to be competitive. We've got to play as many teams as we can that have good RPIs, but not overload our schedule. So, hopefully, it will be a balanced one."

Alabama's second-year coach posted an 18-15 record in his first season at UA.
