University of Alabama Crimson Tide football has landed 14 players on the Athlon Sports All-SEC Teams. Bama has players on the first, second, third as well as fourth teams.

No other Southeastern Conference institution placed as many players on this year's teams as the Crimson Tide. Alabama placed six on the the first team, four on the second, three on the third and one on the fourth team.

Starting with first team offense we go to sophomore wideout Calvin Ridley and junior left tackle Cam Robinson. First team defensive honors go to senior defensive lineman Jonathan Allen, senior linebacker Reuben Foster and safety Eddie Jackson.

Rounding out first team selections were Tide junior punter JK Scott, named as a specialist.

Second team selections were junior tight end O.J. Howard, senior linebacker Tim Williams, sophomore cornerback Minkah Fitzpatrick and senior placekicker Adam Griffith.

Making the third team was sophomore running back Bo Scarbrough, sophomore offensive lineman Ross Pierschbacher and senior linebacker Ryan Anderson.

Rounding out the Tide's 14 selections was junior defensive lineman Da'Shawn Hand selected for the fourth team.

Though career statistics and awards matter in the evaluation of players for the selections to the various All-SEC teams, Athlon's choices are based upon its assessment of how players will perform in the upcoming 2016 season. Thus the choices made are largely based upon predictions/projections.

Alabama Crimson Tide gymnasts Lauren Beers and Mackenzie  Brannan have been named Academic All-Americans by the College Sports Information Directors of America. This is the third time Beers has been so-honored, and the first for Brannan.
When the Academic All-American At-Large Team was announced last week by the College Sports Information Directors of American, it was a milestone event for the Alabama gymnastics program.

Beers and Brannan are only the third Crimson Tide gymnastics duo to earn Academic All-America honors in the same year. Beers did so back in 2014 along with Kim Jacob, and the other time was in 2003 with Stephanie Kite and Kristin Sterner.

Even Crimson Tide head coach Dana Duckworth once earned the honor of Academic All-American back in 1992 and 1993.

Duckworth said, "Being voted an Academic All-American is an amazing honor - one I'll never forget and one that many of student-athletes strive for every year. I love that it is part of our culture. I'm extremely proud to be a part of Alabama gymnastics' ongoing tradition when it comes to this honor and even more proud of Lauren and Mack for adding to our long and proud legacy of classroom champions."

The Alabama gymnastics program has has had more women's Academic All-American At-Large Team members of the Year than any other college or university.

"To have one program earn Academic All-American of the Year recognition four times in 13 years is an extraordinary accomplishment and just another way that Alabama gymnastics sets itself apart when it comes to academic excellence," Associate Athletics Director for Student Services Jon Dever stated.

Bama QB Commit Mac Jones Doing A Little Recruiting

There is nothing quite like having a recruit commit so sold on a football program, so excited to be a part, that he has to share with someone. And to step that up to actually recruiting for that program, trying to bring other quality talent to the program is fantastic.

University of Alabama football commit Mac Jones is that recruit commitment. According to AL.com, the four-star was doing a little campaigning and wooing on behalf of the Crimson Tide during the Rivals 5-Star Challenge. Some of those he was working on were wide receivers Jerry Jeudy, Devonta Smith and Henry Ruggs. (Alabama is thought to be one of the favorites of all three recruits, according to 247Sports.) Jeudy is a four-start out of Deerfield Beach, Florida; Smith is a four-star out of Amite, Louisiana and Ruggs is a home-state youngster out of Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery, Alabama.

Add to those three four-star offensive tackle Walker Little, who showed very little interest in the Tide until Jones worked him, and you have the making of a "recruiting machine" in Jones. Little is now thinking some Crimson Tide football and may be taking a visit.

University Of Alabama Football National Championships: 1930

We continue a brief  look, year-by-year, at the 16 football National Championships won by the University of Alabama. Today we glance at the Crimson Tide's third national title.

Alabama took it's third National Championship in football back in 1930. The team was coached by the legendary Wallace Wade and again completed the regular season at 9-0-0. The Crimson Tide again won the Southern Conference Championship and was then invited to the January 1, 1931 Rose Bowl to play Washington State. Alabama defeated the Cougars 24-0 to finish the season with an overall record of 10-0-0. The outstanding player of the game was John Campbell. Park Davis retroactively awarded Alabama a share of the national championship in his analysis for Spalding's Football Guide in 1934.
