To just say it was a pitcher's duel is an understatement. The Alabama Crimson Tide (51-13) and Oklahoma Sooners (53-7) did indeed have excellent pitching in last night's Women's College World Series contest, but both teams did get runners on base. In the end, in extra innings, it was the Sooners ultimately coming through with a home run to defeat the Tide 3-0.

Alabama softball head coach Patrick Murphy said, "In the postseason, you need starting pitching, defense and timely hitting. Tonight they were 3-for-3 and we were 2-for-3. It was a well-played game."

This was the Crimson Tide's first WCWS extra-innings game since 2006. This meeting between the Tide and Sooners was the second of the season, with Alabama coming up short in the first one also.

Alabama starting pitcher Alexis Osorio (19-7) fought valiantly through the night in the complete game loss. She struck out 10 Okie batters on the night while allowing just three hits. Sooner pitcher Paige Parker (34-3) earned the victory with a complete game shutout, striking out seven Crimson Tide batters on the night.

Crimson Tide senior Haylie McCleney said, "I think we did a nice job of getting people on base. We just didn't get the timely hit and that's going to happen sometimes, especially against a great pitcher like Paige Parker. Alexis [Osorio] threw a shutout for seven inning, that's all we could ask her to do. It's frustrating as an offense not to have her back. We just needed that one key hit."

The Crimson Tide will face the LSU Tigers, loser to Michigan last night, in an elimination game on today at 1:30 p.m. CT on ESPN. This is a "do-or-die" game, with the loser of the contest being sent home.

McCleney commented, "We've been the comeback kids all year. We never feel like we're out of a game. We bend but we don't break. We bent a little [last night], but we're going to get over it. We're going to put our big girl pants on."

The No. 3 defensive end in the nation (according to Scout) holds offers from many of the top schools in the nation, including the University of Alabama. He is 6' 5", 220-pound Chase Young of Hyattsville (Maryland) DeMatha.

Not only is Young listed as the No. 3 DE in the nation, but also is said to be the No. 1 defensive end in the East, and the No. 28 overall prospect in the country.

Young recently made a visit to the Ohio State campus, as well as a pair of trips to the University of Maryland. Of course Maryland is only about five minutes away. Also high on the list for Young is USC and Alabama, both schools in which he is showing interest and plans to visit this summer.

The youngster is in no hurry, and still has numerous schools of which he is considering. Those he has mentioned include the University of Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Florida, Maryland, Ohio State, Michigan, Arizona State, Clemson, Florida State, Miami, Michigan State, Notre Dame and USC.

Most believe that Maryland is where Young's affections lie, with Ohio State having made a move up. Southern Cal and Alabama are coming on strong though, hence the visits he intends to make.

SEC Baseball Tournament To Remain In Hoover

Despite the wooing, coddling, and courtship of other cities, the SEC Baseball Tournament is staying in Hoover.

The athletic directors of the 14 Southeastern Conference member institutions have authorized SEC commissioner Greg Sankey to negotiate with Hoover for the 2017 tournament and moving forward "for a time to be determined" yesterday.

The SEC's current contract with the city of Hoover expired after this year's tournament. Texas A&M was the winner of the 2016 Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament.

The Hoover City Council approved plans this past Tuesday to build a $70 million sports complex near the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium as a part of the agreement to keep the tournament there. The
facility is to be constructed next to the Hoover Met that could be used in conjunction with the tournament.

Sankey said the new facility proposed by the Hoover City Council "very much set that situation apart" from the others attempting to get take the contract from Hoover.

In his closing remarks at the SEC Spring Meetings yesterday in Destin, Florida, Sankey said, "There will be an event center just adjacent to where right field is currently, outside the footprint of the stadium, that will be available for a fanfare type atmosphere, food, some entertainment, (and) also accommodate our teams in a new way. In 2018, what is planned is six practice fields immediately adjacent to the current baseball stadium. One of those to mirror exactly the dimensions of the Hoover Met. So our teams can go warmup in a place that's right there, our fans can see that, rather than standing outside for their team to play when a game might run long."

Hoover was the winner in the last open bid "war" back in 2011. At that time officials upgraded the stadium audio and video systems and made other facility improvements.
