The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) has selected University of Alabama pitcher Thomas Burrows as a third team All-American. This is the first such honor of Burrows' career.

This was Burrows third season with Crimson Tide baseball. He recorded 12 saves in 2016, a career-high for a single season for the left-handed pitcher. He just completed his junior season with a 0.95 ERA (3 ER/28.1 IP) and allowed only nine walks compared to 41 punchouts averaging 13.02 strikeouts per nine innings. Burrows held batters to just 19 hits, holding the opposition to a .179 average. Burrows posted a 2-1 record to go with his 12 saves in 13 games across 21 total appearances. Though Burrows missed nearly a month with an oblique strain in March, the Florence, Alabama native still managed to put together his best season.

Burrows closed out his career with 30 saves and a 7-6 record across 72 relief appearances, leading the the team in saves. He maintained a 2.20 ERA (25 ER/102.1 IP) during his three seasons with the Crimson Tide, and held opposing hitters to a .210 average, allowing only 76 hits. He also struck out 113 compared to 39 walks (2.9 K/BB) in his three years as the team's primary closer.

Burrows' efforts led to him being drafted in the fourth round by the Seattle Mariners in this year's MLB Draft.

Bama's Burrows is one of 67 student-athletes represented on the NCBWA's 19th annual All-America teams.  Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists for the sport.

Alabama Crimson Tide stock may have gone up, at least a little, in the eyes of the nation's No. 1 athlete for 2017. Jacoby Stevens out of Murfreesboro, Tennessee has just paid a visit to the campus of The University of Alabama.

Steven had just released his top seven schools at the end of this past month, but he didn't hide the fact that Auburn, LSU and Tennessee were the three he liked most. Perhaps this visit will shake things up a bit.

According to 247Sports Composite Rankings, Stevens is the No. 23 player in the 2017 class.

The 6' 2", 200-pounder says he will commit on his birthday, July 19th.

Abbie Boswell, a native of Woodridge, Illinois and soccer player last season for Ball State University, has transferred to the University of Alabama according to an announcement by Crimson Tide head soccer coach Wes Hart. She will be immediately eligible to play this season.

Hart commented, "I’m thrilled with Abbie’s decision to come to Alabama. I believe it’s a great fit. I have a bit of a history with Abbie, having coached her on a few occasions during my time as a youth coach. I’m confident she will come in and make an immediate impact. Abbie has proven that she can score goals, something we struggled to do last year."

Boswell became the first Ball State freshman player to be named Mid-American Conference (MAC) Freshman of the Year. She was an All-MAC First Team selection, as well as being named to the NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region Second Team. She also earned the honor of MAC Offensive Player of the Week for the week of August 31, 2015.

She scored 10 goals last season for Ball State while playing in all 20 games her freshman season and making 19 starts. Those 10 have her fourth in goals for Ball State and fifth in the MAC.

Boswell was a three-time all-state honoree, part of two championship teams and set numerous records during her four years at Naperville North High School.

Boswell said, "I am really looking forward to being a part of the team. The coaching staff is a big reason why I came to Alabama. I hope to learn as much as possible from them over the next three years, so I can continue to contribute to the team’s success in the SEC and NCAA tournament."
