Four-star wide receiver recruiting prospect Tyrell Shavers out of Lewisville, Texas has committed to Alabama Crimson Tide football. The announcement came yesterday afternoon in a tweet by the recruit after making an unofficial visit to The Capstone.

"After talking with my family and coaches I am closing down my recruitment and committing to The University of Alabama #RTR", Shavers tweeted.

Shavers had released his "Top 10" list just last month. It consisted of Auburn, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Texas, Texas Tech and, of course, Alabama.

The 6' 6", 202-pound Shavers is the No. 159 player overall and No. 23 wideout in the 2017 recruiting class according to 247Sports composite rankings. He is the 25th-ranked recruit in the state of Texas.

Ryan Bartow of 247Sports spoke with Shavers and said the young man said that his recruitment "was over" and he was playing "for the best."

Shavers holds at least 12 Division I offers.

Alabama softball has collected another honor. The University of Alabama softball coaching staff has been named the 2016 South Region Coaching Staff of the Year. The honor was announced Monday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

The current edition of the Bama staff includes head coach  Patrick Murphy in his 18th season, associate head coach Alyson Habetz also in her 18th season, assistant coach Stephanie VanBrakle in her 4th season, volunteer assistant coach Adam Arbour in his 4th season and finally director of operations Kate Harris now in her 6th season. 2016 marks the third time this particular staff has won the award and the 10th overall for the Alabama softball program. The previous honors came in 2000, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014.

The Crimson Tide finished this season with a 51-14 record. Alabama has had 50-win seasons 12 times now, 10 in the past 12 seasons. The Tide has dazzled the college softball work, making its 11th Women’s College World Series appearance this past season, including three consecutive, and its 18th-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Crimson Tide softball has now surpassed the 1,000 win mark with a victory back on April 5th, becoming the fourth Southeastern Conference team to do so and the first among the league programs that began playing softball in 1997.

Congratulations to Patrick Murphy and his entire staff. Roll Tide!

University of Alabama sophomore Korey Lovett and freshman Mazen Osama have represent the Alabama men's tennis team well this past season. The pair have finished sixth in the nation and first in the southern region in double's competition in the national rankings, tying the highest final ranking in Alabama men's tennis history. Not only that, but their No. 6 finish, as well as their top eight seed in the NCAA doubles championship, also garnered the pair Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-America honors. They are the eighth Alabama duo to earn the honor as well as the third in the last four years.

Osama ends his freshman season 54th nationally, as well as in four regionally, in singles. This is the highest final ranking for a freshman in program history and only the second time a Crimson Tide freshman has closed out the year in the top 75. University Of Alabama Football National Championships: 1926

Yesterday I began a brief rundown of The University of Alabama's National Championship football teams. We'll take a look at all sixteen, one day at a time.

The second national championship football team from The University of Alabama came in 1926. The Crimson Tide was once again coached by Wallace Wade and completed an undefeated regular season with a record of 9-0-0. Bama was again the winner of the Southern Conference championship, and was again invited to the Rose Bowl. This time Alabama faced Stanford on January 1, 1927 in Pasadena, California. The outcome was a 7-7 tie, finishing the season at 9-0-1. Outstanding player of the game was Fred Pickhard.

This time Alabama was selected as the National Champion by the Helms Athletic Foundation.
