Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban and the University of Alabama are expected to hire longtime NFL assistant coach Karl Dunbar as the new defensive line coach, according to a report from AL.com yesterday.

The DL coach position came open this past Friday when former coach Bo Davis resigned amid reports of recruiting violations.

It is known that Dunbar and Saban have a longstanding coaching relationship. Dunbar was a defensive lineman at LSU in his college days, and then later become LSU's strength and conditioning coach under Saban from 2001-02. He left for a short time but then returned as LSU's defensive line coach in 2005 for head coach Les Miles.

In 2006 Dunbar left LSU for the NFL's Minnesota Vikings. There he filled the defensive line coaching position from 2006-11. Later he served in the same capacity for the New York Jets from 2012-14, and finally with the Buffalo Bills last season as defensive line coach.

Alabama lost an outstanding defensive line coach in Bo Davis, but appears to have found an excellent replacement.

Where Are The Tide's Undrafted Free-Agents Heading?

Seven players for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team were selected to play in the NFL during the 2016 NFL Draft this past week. One player went in Round One, five players in Round Two and one player in Round Three.

The only Alabama player to go in Round One of the NFL Draft was Ryan Kelly. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts as the No. 18 overall selection.

Round Two saw Reggie Ragland drafted by the Buffalo Bills, Derrick Henry selected by the Tennessee Titans, A'Shawn Robinson taken by the Detroit Lions, Jarran Reed is going with the Seattle Seahawks and Cyrus Jones was selected by the New England Patriots.

Only one player from the Crimson Tide was selected in Round Three. Kenyan Drake will be going to sunny Florida to kick it with Mickey, Minnie and Goofy as he was drafted by the Miami Dolphins.

That's where it ended. No other players from UA were drafted in the remaining rounds. However, several players of note not have been signed by various teams since that time. Here is the list of Alabama's undrafted free agents and the NFL teams for which they will be playing:

Richard Mullaney is headed to the state of Texas to play for the Houston Texans.

Dillon Lee heads across the river to Louisiana to play for the New Orleans Saints.

D.J. Pettway may be hitching a ride with Lee as he, too, is to be with the New Orleans Saints.

Dominick Jackson will be going to our nation's capitol to play for the Washington Redskins.

Geno Matias-Smith has signed and will also be with the Washington Redskins.

Jake Coke will be moving to Arizona soon in order to play for the Arizona Cardinals.

Darren Lake is going west, far west, to play for the San Francisco 49ers.

Michael Nysewander is going to be playing for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Numerous weather delays, plus having the game shortened due to the weather, didn't hamper the Alabama Crimson Tide softball team from defeating the South Carolina Gamecocks yesterday 5-1.

The Tide was on the board with five runs before South Carolina was ever able to get it into gear. All five of the runs scored by Alabama (43-10, 14-7 SEC) were prior to the third inning when the Gamecocks (34-18, 6-15 SEC) finally scored their lone run. Haylie McCleney was two-for-three with two RBIs. She is now only two hits away from 300 career hits. Marisa Runyon was two-for-two with one RBI on the day, with Peyton Grantham and Kallie Case driving in Bama's remaining two runs.

Sydney Littlejohn (21-4) started for Bama yesterday, tossing 4.0 innings. She allowed just one run on four hits. Coming in as the reliever was Alexis Osorio who pitched 1.0 inning in relief before the game was called. The losing pitcher for South Carolina was Jessica Elliot (17-6) tossing three innings while allowing five runs, four earned on seven hits.

The Crimson Tide wraps up the regular season when they host the Georgia Bulldogs (39-14, 11-10 SEC) for a three-game series. Game one is Friday, May 6th with a 6:30 p.m. CT first pitch. Game two is 11 a.m. CT on Saturday and start time for game three to be determined. Saturday's game will be aired live on ESPN.

Bo Davis Resignation Details Beginning To Emerge

Former UA Defensive Line Coach Bo Davis

Word has slowly been coming out concerning the sudden resignation of Alabama defensive line coach Bo Davis on Friday morning. Thursday afternoon it was learned there were possible NCAA recruiting violations of which he was accused and would either be fired or asked to resign. Alabama football coach Nick Saban then released a short, two sentence press report following the resignation on Friday morning. But no details from either the university or athletic department itself were forthcoming.

According to a report by AL.com, Davis is being investigated by the NCAA for potential impermissible contact with recruits. A source told the website that the former DL coach is accused of visiting multiple out-of-state recruits during a "no contact" period established by NCAA rules. That source also said those recruits with whom Davis allegedly had contact did not sign with Alabama.

It appears that when the NCAA contacted Alabama's compliance office and they, in turn, questioned Davis, he was dishonest in his dealing with the university. He then resigned.

Davis was considered one of the top defensive coaches in the country by his peers. He was serving under Saban for the second time as defensive line coach.
