Saturday was a big day for Alabama rowing.

The Crimson Tide closed out its home schedule yesterday morning on the Black River with a big three-race sweep of the Southern Methodist University Mustangs.

Alabama head rowing coach Larry Davis stated, "Anytime that you can go out, be successful and sweep a regatta, that is a great thing from a coaching standpoint. This is also a good way for us to prepare as we go into the conference championships."

Recording the fastest time of the day was the First Varisity 8+ boat finishing with a 6:49.7. All three of Alabama's Second Varsity 8+ boats crossed the line in under eight minutes. The three finished with times of 7:03.6, 7:04.2, and 7:12. The Crimson Tide also finished in under eight minutes in the Varsity 4+ with a time of 7:41.8.

With this being the final home regatta held at Alabama, UA celebrated the 15 seniors on the rowing team.

Davis added, "I think that it is a great way to send the seniors off," Davis said. "They have certainly done their job to become a better team, and we are proud of them."

Here are the senior members of this year's Alabama rowing teams: Joyce Auguste (Jacksonville, Fla.), Abigail Palmer (Zelienople, Penn), Katie Chambers (Orlando, Fla.), Rachel Palmer (Houston, Texas), Madeleine Evans (San Jose, Calif.), Jacklin Byers (Lorton, Va.), Ali Smith (Flower Mound, Texas), Tori Cohen (Tallahassee, Fla.), Nyia Owen (Orlando Fla), Erin Delaney (Albany, N.Y.), Rachel Henderson (Ashland, Mass.), Miller Tuohy (Newton, Mass), Olivia Dennis (Odesa, Fla.),  Courtney Atkinson (San Clemente, Calif.) and Kendall Scullion (Novati, Calif.).

The Alabama men's and women's track & field teams finished second and third respectively while winning six individual events at the LSU Invitational yesterday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Heavy rain and lightning had earlier forced a three hour delay in the meet.

Alabama's men scored 154 team points for a second-place finish behind Texas A&M with 171 total points. LSU was third with 134 points while Arkansas came in fourth with 97.5 points. The Tide women scored 118.5 points for a third-place finish behind first-place Kentucky with 125, then LSU at 119. Texas A&M came in with 115.5 points for a fourth-place finish.

Justin Fondren was the winner in the men’s high jump at 6-11 ½ (2.12 meters), with Joe Williams winning the men’s discus at 189-11 (57.88m).  Elias Hakannson won the men’s hammer at 222-7 (67.84m). It was Callie Coggins capturing the women’s steeplechase at 11:30.67 and Quanesha Burks took the women’s long jump at 22-2 ¼ (6.76m). Alabama senior Ahmed Ali was the top collegiate finisher in the men’s 200 meters with a time of 20.76.

Alabama track & field head coach Dan Waters said, "We had a pretty good meet. We had a chance to win the meet on both sides and just came up a few points short. We competed hard, had several wins and a lot of personal and season bests. This gives us good momentum going into the SEC Championships at home."

The Crimson Tide now begins the championship portion of their 2016 season. Alabama will host the Southeastern Conference Track & Field Championships May 12-14 at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Complex in Tuscaloosa.

No Crimson Tide Players Drafted On Final Day Of NFL Draft

Seven players. One in Round One. Five in Round Two. One in Round Three.

Sorry. That's where it ends.

No University of Alabama football players were drafted on the final day of the 2016 NFL Draft. Among those passed over were  linebacker Dillon Lee, defensive lineman D.J. Pettway and quarterback Jake Coker. FoxSports.com projected Lee to go in the 4th, Pettway was thought to be going in the fifth or at least the sixth and some thought Coker would go by the end of the draft but didn't. Of course he is expected to be signed as an undrafted free agent.

Others that didn't get drafted were offensive tackle Dominick Jackson, receiver Richard Mullaney and safety Geno Matias-Smith.

Questions Persist In The Resignation Of DL Coach Bo Davis

Former Tide Defensive Line Coach Bo Davis

Questions persist in the rapid resignation of University of Alabama defensive line coach Bo Davis. On Friday Alabama head coach Nick Saban released the following statement: Bo Davis has submitted his letter of resignation. We appreciate all the contributions he made to the program and wish him and his family the very best in the future.

So, that was it. No more and no less.

The day before, TideSports.com had said in a story that Davis was leaving  "over an inquiry into possible recruiting violations."

AL.com has reported that the situation did indeed involve a potential recruiting violation, which "may not have been serious in nature." Here's the sticky part, though. It appears, again from AL.com reporting, that Davis was not cooperative with the school when questioned about it. "It appears that lack of cooperation led to his departure."

Perhaps as the NCAA makes its inquiries, which is understood to have already begun, more details will be forthcoming.

Regardless, a really good coach is gone. Whether it is found there were NCAA violations or not, he was well-liked by his players. And the Alabama family.

Remember, he wouldn't be gone if the best head coach in the country didn't think it was best for the program.
