Can everyone say "14"?

The Alabama Crimson Tide women's softball team ha earned its 14th-consecutive appearance in an NCAA Regional title game by defeating the Cal Bears 3-1 yesterday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The Tide (48-12) has appeared in the regional championship every year since 2003, and has won all but one of those title games. Yesterday's win also gave Bama its 30th-consecutive victory in the regional round.

The Tide's Chandler Dare drove in two of the team’s three runs with a third-inning triple and a fifth-inning double sending Haylie McCleney across home plate to score on both hits. Alabama starting pitcher Sydney Littlejohn (23-6) threw 4.0 innings for the win, with  Alexis Osorio striking out seven batters over 3.0 relief innings for her seventh save of the season.

University of Alabama freshman golfer Cheyenne Knight continued to look strong in the second round of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships yesterday. Knight shot a 3-under par 69 on Saturday is currently tied for fourth place heading into today's third round. The championships are being held at the par-72, 6,331-yard Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon.

For awhile yesterday Knight was challenging for first, but wound up three shots off the individual lead heading into today's third round. Knight has gone 69-69/138 in the first two rounds. As a team, Alabama (300-292/592) shot a 4-over par 292 in the second round and is currently in 21st place, up slightly from round one action.

Concerning her play, Knight said, "Overall it was a pretty good round. The golf course, I love it. It fits my eye perfectly. My driver is my favorite club and I hit it pretty straight. The greens are so firm you can’t really put any spin on it and there are spots on the green where you just can’t be. Take a lot of pars and get your birdies where you can."

Other individual scoring for the Crimson Tide has senior Emma Talley (77-73/150) at one-over par for the second round, sophomore Lakareber Abe (78-74/152) was two-over par, senior Janie Jackson (76-76/152) was four-over par, and sophomore Nicole Morales (78-81/159) was nine-over par on the day.

Alabama women's head golf coach spoke of the better play in the second round while complimenting Knight on her play, "I was glad to see everybody finish stronger today. We just keep leaving some shots out there that we can’t at this point. But Cheyenne’s playing great and has a chance so we just have to keep plugging along. I thought the course set up great for her. She drives the ball really straight, has good distance control and she’s a really good putter."

USC (289-280/569) currently holds the lead in the team race at seven-under par through the first  two rounds. They are followed by Washington (289-285/574), UCLA (286-291/577), Stanford (295-283/578), Oregon (297-282/579) and Oklahoma State (284-295/579).

The top 15 teams after today’s third round will advance to the final round of stroke play on Monday, May 23rd to compete for a spot in the eight-team match play round that begins on Tuesday, May 24. The top nine individuals at the end of the third round who are not members of the 15 team finalists will advance to Monday’s final stroke play round as well to compete for individual medalist honors.

Alabama will tee off from Hole No. 1 at 3:06 p.m. CT. The Tide will be in a group today with Texas and Miami (Florida).

Crimson Tide Swept By Gamecocks This Weekend

The Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team lost one, two, and finally number three yesterday as the South Carolina Gamecocks made a clean sweep of the three-game series with Bama. Carolina took game three yesterday 9-7 at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in a sea-saw battle. Alabama enters the Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament sporting a 31-24 overall record, and 15-15 mark in league play.

Alabama men's baseball head coach Mitch Gaspard commented, "Today was much like the series: Every time we kind of made a little run at them, they held us from taking the lead in most spots. We got a short-lived lead today, but they just continued to respond. South Carolina is a really a hot team. There's some areas here that we've got to take from the weekend and work on. You start fresh again on Tuesday in the SEC Tournament. We've got to put our game together, clean some areas up and execute overall just a little bit better."

The Crimson Tide's first four hitters batted a combined .530 (9-17) with a double, one home run, six RBIs, six runs scored as well as a stolen base. Chandler Taylor finished the day 2-for-5 with a home run, one run scored, a stolen base and a team-high tying three RBIs. Adding three RBIs in the contest was Georgie Salem, who went 3-for-5 with a double and added one run. Keith Holcombe finished the contest with a career-high and team-high three runs, while Cobie Vance led the Tide with two walks and added a 1-for-3 day that included a run scored.

Next up for Alabama is the 2016 Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament. The ninth-seed Crimson Tide will participate in one of Tuesday's single-elimination matchups, taking on No. 8-seed Kentucky in the 4:30 p.m. CT game at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium. The winner of that game will advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament on Wednesday. (See accompanying story.)

Could Felony Charge Against Robinson Be Reduced?

Photo made available by Sporting News

According to an article by Alex Byington in The Decatur Daily, criminal defense attorney Cameron Murray in Monroe, Louisiana says that the district attorney in Monroe tries to help youths with other avenues of punishment, which includes decision-making classes as well as rehabilitation. That is, indeed, a good thing.

In the article, Murray stated, "The district attorney’s office here is very good about trying to keep somebody from having a felony on their record, so it’s imminently possible this could be worked out to either a misdemeanor or possibly a dismissal depending on the circumstances of each case.

The government has the burden of proof, according to Murray, that Robinson and/or Jones even knew that the gun was stolen or that they should have known. All it would take is proof by Robinson himself that he didn't personally know that the gun in question was stolen.
