TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 23 Florida Gators came to Coleman Coliseum last night and showed the Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team why they are nationally ranked as the Tide came up short 80-67 Tuesday night in Southeastern Conference men's basketball action. The loss ended a four-game winning streak for Bama, falling to 9-6 overall, 2-1 in SEC play. Florida improves to 13-3 overall, 4-0 SEC.

It was a big night for Alabama freshman Braxton Key as he recorded a career-high 24 points in the contest. It was the first 20-point performance by an Alabama this season. Key also contributed five rebounds while playing a season-high 35 minutes.

Alabama men's head basketball coach Avery Johnson said, "Tough night for us tonight. We didn't get off to a great start, but we did a decent job of finishing the first half to cut the lead to seven. Then we came out with a great plan in the second half. We played well on both ends of the floor, we defended, we scored, we had great shot selection. We go up by six then they make a three and cut the lead back down to three, then they went on a run at the end to finish the game pretty strong. They did a good job of pressuring us tonight into some careless turnovers, but those are all correctable errors. Also, we have to do a better job of finishing our shots in the paint and making our free-throws."

The Crimson Tide led in the second half by as many as six before the Gator defense locked down the Tide scoring, and Florida went on a scoring spree of their own. Six turnovers and going only 2-of-5 in shooting in the last seven and a half minutes of play doomed the Tide.

In addition to Key's 24 points, sophomore Donta Hall added 12 points while Ar'Mond Davis pumped in 10 from off the bench to score in double figures for Bama. Hall also contributed eight rebounds on the night.

For the 11th time in 15 games the Tide won the rebounding battle. Bama beat the Gators on the glass 37-30 last night. Unfortunately Alabama had a big night in turnovers as well, finishing with 18 in the contest, giving Florida a 27-10 advantage in points off turnovers. The Tide was off from the free throw line as well, hitting only 16-of-32 on the night.

Up next for the Crimson Tide is a trip to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where Bama will battle the LSU Tigers this Saturday, January 14th at 2:30 p.m. CT. The game can be seen on the SEC Network.

According to University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban, running back Bo Scarbrough suffered a broken bone in his lower leg during Alabama's national title game loss to Clemson on Monday night. Saban made the announcement on Tuesday.

It should be noted, thankfully, that the injury won't require surgery.

Saban commented, "We anticipate a full recovery.

Scarbrough was injured late in the third quarter of the national championship game and didn't return once he left the field, and ultimately headed to the locker room. Prior to  the injury Scarbrough had already rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.
