TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The fourth-ranked University of Alabama gymnastics team fell to the number one gymnastics squad in the nation last night 197.575-197.100. The Crimson Tide put up a valiant fight at Coleman Coliseum but fell just short to the LSU Tigers in front of 12,501 fans.

Alabama gymnastics head coach Dana Duckworth commented, "I cannot say enough about the electric feeling in that arena [yesterday]. It really made a difference in our performance."

Kiana Winston shared top honors in the all-around with a career-best 39.600. She also won the uneven bars and floor exercise with matching scores of 9.95.

"Kiana did that amazing bar routine and just got the crowd so excited," Duckworth stated.

As the score indicates, the Crimson Tide was never out of any of the events.

Duckworth, commenting on a fall on the balance beam, said, "For the second week in a row we actually had a break on beam and had to come back. That kind of resilience is what our team needs so they know that the next second is more important and only five scores count."

Alabama will be back on the road next week for a meet with the Missouri Tigers on Friday, January 20th.

With at least three underclassmen and three coaches headed out the door, Alabama football got some good news yesterday. Two have decided not to enter the NFL draft. Cornerbacks Tony Brown and Anthony Averett have decided that they will remain in school for their senior season and play football for the Crimson Tide

Brown played in 11 of the Tide's 15 games this season. He missed the four due to NCAA suspension. Brown provided the Bama defense with 32 tackles and two interceptions this season. He was moved to the nickel back slot the final seven games of the season after Eddie Jackson received a season-ending injury on October 22nd in the Texas A&M contest.
Averett informed the Alabama coaching staff yesterday morning of his decision to remain in school. This was his first season to start after having not played much at all previously. Averett started all 15 games as a redshirt junior this past season, recording 48 tackles, three tackles for loss, eight pass breakups as well as two forced fumbles.

Alabama's Tosh Lupoi Could Be Next DC At Cal

Tosh Lupoi

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - It appears that players graduating, players departing early for the NFL and a couple of coaches headed to FAU with new Atlantic head coach Lane Kiffin may not be all who are departing The Capstone. It is being reported that Alabama's outside linebackers coach may become the next defensive coordinator for the Cal Bears should Wisconsin defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox get the head coaching gig with Cal. Lupoi has been with the Crimson Tide for two seasons.

The main attraction that Wilcox has for Lupoi is his ability as a recruiter. In 2010 when at Cal, Lupoi was named National Recruiter of the Year.

Mario Cristobal Reportedly Headed To Oregon

When it rains, it pours. No, not Morton's Salt.

It would appear that more coaches than thought previously may be leaving the University of Alabama and head coach Nick Saban's staff. Two headed to FAU, one possibly to Cal and now Mario Cristobal.

ESPN.com along with 247Sports.com are reporting that offensive line coach Mario Cristobal is leaving the Crimson Tide and headed to Oregon with Willie Taggart to be named as co-offensive coordinator.

Cristobal previously was head coach at Florida International for six years before joining Saban at Alabama four seasons ago.

Robinson & Humphrey Plan NFL Jump

Cam Robinson expected to declare for NFL Draft

Two more Crimson Tide players have decided to leave Tuscaloosa early and will be entering this year's NFL draft. Alabama junior and left tackle Cam Robinson along with redshirt junior and cornerback Marlon Humphrey are expected to leave The Capstone and move on to the next level of their football careers.

Both were outstanding players for the University of Alabama football team. Robinson was first-team All-SEC the past two seasons, and was the recipient of the Outland Trophy this past year. The Outland Trophy is awarded each year to the nation's top interior lineman.

Humphrey has been a two-year starter for the Crimson Tide. He recorded 36 tackles and two interceptions this past season as a redshirt sophomore.

Both players are generally ranked in the top 20 prospects for the NFL.

This now brings to three the total number of Alabama players expected to declare for the draft. A few days ago wide receiver ArDarius Stewart announced his plans to leave early.

Offensive Analyst Mike Locksley
May Remain With The Crimson Tide

There is an awful lot of coaching rumors concerning the football staff for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide. Head coach Nick Saban lost offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin the week before the national championship game, said to be a mutual decision, and Mario Cristobal is pretty much on his way to Oregon as the co-offensive coordinator. A couple of assistants are supposedly going to FAU with Kiffin and then it was recently learned that Tosh Lupoi was probably on his way to Cal.

Good news, please. Enough of the departures. It was once rumored that offensive analyst Mike Locksley was departing for an on-field coaching gig at Florida for Jim McElwain, but that appears to be dead and stinking. ESPN's Brett McMurphy is reporting that Locksley is expected to stay in Tuscaloosa in some sort of on-field coaching position for the Tide. No real information exists as to what that position may be, but once it is known it will be shared.

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – Not only does the Alabama women's tennis team do a great job on the tennis court, but individually the lovely ladies excel in the classroom as well, specifically speaking of the 2016 fall semester. As a team, the Bama belles recorded a 3.9 team GPA, the best team GPA among the Crimson Tide's 17 athletics programs.

Alabama women's tennis head coach Jenny Mainz said, "I'm proud of our team for their impressive fall semester in the classroom. Their commitment to excellence in earning a cumulative 3.9 grade point average is outstanding. Our girls are proud to wear the Alabama 'A' and they are dedicated to serving as great ambassadors on the tennis court and in the academic arena."

Three of the Bama women's tennis players earned a 4.0 grade point average and were named to the President's List in the fall, including senior Danielle Spielmann, sophomore Andie Daniell and freshman Maddie Pothoff.

Additionally the Crimson Tide had three student-athletes named to the Dean's List (3.5 or better GPA), including senior Erin Routliffe, junior Smith Hinton and freshman Juliana Valero. It should be noted that the team's impressive 3.9 GPA is the highest mark set by any team under Mainz in her 20 seasons at Alabama.
