It was a warm 89-degree day for yesterday's workout. The University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team worked for approximately two hours in full pads at the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields. Bama continues to ready itself for this weekend's road game with the No. 16/18 Arkansas Razorbacks.

The Crimson Tide defense continues to work out the game plan to effectively counter a potent and balanced Razorback offense that ranking among the best in the conference in both on the running and passing game. Schemes are practiced, plays are repeated, and fundamentals as well as concentration on assignments are being stressed.

Both ArDarius Stewart and Trevon Diggs were wearing leg braces in practice yesterday. Both players seemed to practice well.

Running back Damien Harris seemed to be making his runs and cuts well after sitting out most of last Saturday's contest with Kentucky.

The SEC West rivals are scheduled to kick it off at 6:05 p.m. CT this Saturday at Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN with Joe Tessitore and Todd Blackledge calling the action from the booth, and Holly Rowe covering the sidelines.

The Crimson Tide leads the series with the Razorbacks 16-8 (19-7 before forfeited and vacated games), and has won the last nine contests between the two Southeastern Conference powerhouses. Alabama also has four consecutive victories in Fayetteville, outscoring the Hogs 139-47. Last season Alabama took a 27-14 Homecoming win over Arkansas at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

What Saban Said...At Wednesday Press Briefing

University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban held his weekly press briefing yesterday prior to this Saturday's contest with No. 16/18 and Southeastern Conference foe Arkansas. The coach talked about injuries, complemented players, discussed problems/corrections and a brief overview of this week's opponent.

Saban began complimenting the Razorbacks, speaking of how they go after opponents and beats them with good fundamentals and execution. Of course everyone knows that the head coach believes those are two key ingredients for any successful football team.

Referring to last season's matchup with Arkansas, Saban said that Alabama will have to to better than that. He talked about how for three quarters in last year's 27-14 win the Tide didn't play up to its standard, and it was going to take more to beat this team this year.

Concerning true freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts, Saban said he can't let the possibility of injury dictate how to use the youngster since he is so prone to running the football. Saban said he's not worried about that situation and isn't going to even factor-in that possibility as to how to use him.

Also concerning Hurts, when asked about the how much of the playbook was available to the young quarterback Saban responded that they were not going to try to have him do more than Hurts is capable of doing.

Saban was complimentary of nose guard Josh Frazier, saying that he has done a good job and shown improvement at the position. He added that he believed Frazier would get in a lot of playing time in this week's contest.

Asked about an early signing period or day, Saban responded that he wasn't in favor of an early signing day, nor of moving the recruiting calendar forward. He said that is would make it more difficult to adequately evaluate a prospect, as well as prohibiting late-bloomers from getting a real chance to show themselves for what they were capable of doing. To further make his point, Saban cited the example of running back Joshua Jacobs.

Alabama and Arkansas face off this Saturday at 6:05 p.m. CT at Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
