Following the first day of classes for the 2016-17 academic year yesterday, The University of Alabama football team conducted a two-hour practice session in full pads outdoors on the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields.

This was the 16th practice of 28 for 2016 Fall Camp. The team hit the field at 3:30 p.m. CT, with the Tide continuing preparation for this Saturday's scrimmage. Alabama is preparing for the season opener with the University of Southern California Trojans in the AdvoCare Classic on September 3rd. The teams will meet inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Start time is 7 p.m. CT, and will be broadcast live on the ABC Network with Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Sam Ponder handling the announcing duties.

Still in a walking boot, defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson didn't practice for a third consecutive day. He suffered a twisted ankle during Bama's scrimmage on Saturday.

Inside linebacker Keith Holcombe again wasn't seen at practice during the media viewing period.

Today and tomorrow the Crimson Tide hits the practice field again at 3:30 p.m. CT, with Saturday's scrimmage scheduled for 1 p.m. CT inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. This will be the final scrimmage of Fall Camp.

A pair of University of Alabama soccer players have been selected to this year's Southeastern Conference coaches preseason list for the upcoming season. The SEC offices have selected Alabama senior Celia Jimenez Delgado and sophomore Emma Welch.

Just this past season Jimenez led the Crimson Tide in points (10), goals (4), game-winning goals (2), shots (55) as well as shots on goal (18). Her 55 shots tied for the seventh-most in a single season in Alabama soccer history. Also, the 55 shots were the eighth-most shots taken by a player in the Southeastern Conference. Jimenez was also second on the team in assists, with two, this last season. She was also a member of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup Spanish National Team.

Welch completed a successful freshman season this past year, leading the team in assists (4) and tied for fourth with shots (24). She made the most starts by a freshman (17) on the team, and was the only freshman to play in all 19 matches for the Crimson Tide. Welch was a member of the SEC All-Freshman team last season, marking the first Alabama freshman to earn that honor since 2012.

Alabama will begin the 2016 regular season against the Sam Houston State Bearkats this Friday, August 19th, at 7 p.m. CT at the Alabama Soccer Complex. Admission is free for all fans and students. Freshmen will have an opportunity to enter to win a Go-Pro and a soccer ball signed by Alabama soccer head coach Wes Hart.

Though the 2016 academic school year has just gotten underway, another player from The University of Alabama Crimson Tide football has decided to transfer. According to ESPN, redshirt freshman cornerback Kendall Sheffield is leaving Alabama for Blinn College in Brenham, Texas.

The five-star prospect from the class of 2015 has been notably absent from Crimson Tide practices since the weekend. It has been rumored he isn't happy with the depth chart and playing time. According to a family member, Alabama head football coach Nick Saban said yesterday that he would release Sheffield from Alabama with the stipulation that he not transfer to another SEC school.

Yesterday he signed with Blinn. Sheffield will be in JUCO for two semesters, and will be transferring back to the Division I level once he graduates, according to reports. He will be allowed to return to the SEC and immediately play.

Sheffield reportedly has returned home to his family in the Houston, Texas area.

He is now the fourth member of Alabama's No. 1-ranked class of 2015 to transfer since the end of last season. Daylon Charlot, Adonis Thomas and Christian Bell were the other three.

The fifth-seed Riley will now advance to the round of 32 where he meets No. 28 seed Curtis Luck this morning. Luck is the No. 28 seed in the tournament.

The state of Kentucky's top-prospect is taking a long, hard look at The University of Alabama Crimson Tide football program. Jedrick Wills is a 6' 5.5", 315-pound lineman, and is the No. 9 offensive tackle and No. 43 overall according to the 247Sports Composite.

Several schools are in the running for his services, like Tennessee, Georgia, Notre Dame as well as his home-state school Kentucky. But Alabama seems to be in the cat-bird's seat for the youngster. He is also expected to announce soon.

Eric Shaw, Lafayette (Kentucky) High School head coach, says that Shaw wants to commit before his season begins so that he "can relax and focus on his senior year." He also commented that the young man "really likes Alabama." Shaw said that when the announcement comes, it will come by way of Twitter.
