Bama Football Back At It After Two-Day Break

After enjoying a much-deserved two-day break, The University of Alabama football team returned to practice working outdoors yesterday for two hours in shells in cloudy, 90 degree weather on the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields.

This was the Crimson Tide's 20th of 28 practice sessions of Fall Camp. Practice yesterday got underway at 3:30 p.m. CT with the team continuing to work on basic fundamentals. Bama will get in five practice sessions this week before taking Sunday off.

Following Sunday's day of rest, the Tide will begin game-week preparations for the season opener on September 3rd.

Defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson was finally able to get some work in. He practiced for the first time since he suffered an ankle injury back on August 13th. Wide receiver Cam Sims, who had suffered a knee injury, and Keith Holcombe, ankle injury, were both dressed for yesterday's practice session but didn't participate in drills during the media viewing period.

Senior O.J. Howard was back out on the practice field, though limited in his work. He appeared to be more mobile than he was back on Saturday, however.

The only players sporting black, no-contact jerseys yesterday were Ronnie ClarkRichie Petitbon and Nigel Knott.

The quarterback order appeared unchanged. It was Cooper Bateman, Blake Barnett and then Jalen Hurts.

The order of wide receivers during drills were altered in yesterday's practice due to Sims injury. Order was ArDarius Stewart, Calvin Ridley, Robert Foster, Gehrig Dieter, Raheem Falkins, Xavian Marks, Derek Kief and T.J. Simmons.

Scouts from various NFL teams were again on hand to view the practice session.

Alabama will face USC on September 3rd in the season opener in the AdvoCare Bowl to be played in AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT and will be aired live on ABC. Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Sam Ponder will be calling the game.

Colin Cowherd Again References Alabama

Apparently when Colin Cowherd feels he needs a little more attention he references University of Alabama football. This time, however, the remark toward Alabama head coach Nick Saban came as a result of something involving Notre Dame.

There were a number of Notre Dame players who have found themselves in legal troubles after a series of arrests this past weekend. Okay, a Notre Dame story, and a situation that Notre Dame needs to handle. As a result of these legal issues, senior safety Max Redfield was dismissed from the program, and senior Devin Butler has been suspended indefinitely. So Cowherd decided  to speak up on the subject yesterday. Of course he would, as he did concerning the problems that Alabama has faced this past off-season.

Cowherd's position? He thinks the punishments are convenient, because he says that  Notre Dame doesn’t need those players to compete this year. He then went on to compare the Notre Dame   program to Alabama,  which he believes has done similarly this year.

He believes that Notre Dame and Alabama (thought this was a Notre Dame story) only dismiss or suspend players when it really won't have any real adverse effect on the program.

Kirk Herbstreit Makes College Football Playoff Predictions

ESPN sports analyst Kirk Herbstreit dropped his four college football playoff teams for 2016 a little earlier. Though he usually updates his predictions weekly during the season, he has his four choices pretty much locked in for his preseason picks. He announced his four teams while appearing on ESPN Radio's Russillo and Kanell.

Herbstreit will open his 2016 CFP prognostications with The University of Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and...wait for it...TCU. Now for his rationale.

Herbstreit says that  he is going with Clemson because it's who he thinks is "going to win the championship." He further comments it's because of "one guy", Deshaun Watson. He calls Watson "a freak."

His choice of Alabama, he says, is also because "of another one guy. That is Nick Saban."

Concerning the Buckeyes, Herbstreit says, "I think Ohio State still comes out of the Big Ten. I think J.T. Barrett, despite all their [personnel] losses, will kind of allow Ohio State to be able to maneuver through their schedule and get there to win a Big Ten Championship."

Then comes his fourth pick. Let's let Herbstreit explain it himself, "Those three I feel pretty good about. The fourth team I think I’m going to go TCU out of the Big 12. It’s either a Pac-12 team or TCU. Right now, I’m leaning towards TCU as my fourth team to get in."
