The University of Alabama women's basketball team fell to 13-9, 2-6 SEC as the Tennessee Volunteers turned back the Tide 70-42 yesterday in Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tennessee. The No. 19/23 Vols improve to 13-8, 4-4 SEC.

Bama head coach KRISTY CURRY said, "On a day like today (Sunday) you credit Tennessee. Obviously they had a tough week last week, and I thought they bounced back with an exclamation point. That speaks of their character and the coaching staff."

Tennessee held a 14 point lead just as the first half was about to close, but Alabama junior BREANNA HAYDEN was able to put in couple of free throws to send the teams into the locker room with the Vols holding a 34-22 lead.

Alabama was never able to close the gap to less than 11 points, and that came about midway through the third period. Tennessee led by 16 at the end of the third, 51-35.

Though the Volunteers were able to increase their lead to as many as 30 points, the Lady Tide were able to cut that commanding lead to 28 by the end of the game.

MEOSHONTI KNIGHT led Alabama in scoring with 11 points as well as the team-high in rebounds with five. HANNAH COOK and KARYLA MIDDLEBROOK pumped in eight points each. Middlebrook, QUANETRIA BOLTON and NIKKI HEGSTETTER pulled down four rebounds each.

Alabama shot 27.5 percent (14-51) from the floor with Tennessee hitting 44.3 percent (27-61). The Tide was out-rebounded  47-26.

Curry commented, "I think the game came down to a presence in the paint. Credit their front line. I thought they were really, really good today on both ends of the floor. We just weren't able to counter with bodies today. We will continue to work in recruiting and continue to get better."

Next up the Crimson Tide hosts a pair of games at Foster Auditorium. Ole Miss comes calling on Thursday, then Auburn on Sunday. The Tide-Rebels contest will be at 6 p.m. CT on Thursday, with the Tide-Tiger matchup beginning at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday.

Bama Football Completes 2017 Non-Conference Schedule

The University of Alabama has added Mercer to its 2017 non-conference football schedule. Mercer is an FCS school located in Macon, Georgia and plays in the Southern Conference. In addition to 2017, Bama will play Mercer in a second game in 2021.

The other non-conference games scheduled to be played in 2017 are with Florida State on September 2nd in Atlanta, Georgia, Fresno State on September 9th and Colorado State on September 16th. The dates of the two contests with Mercer have not yet been announced.

Mercer finished the 2015 season with a 5-6 record and finished sixth in the Southern Conference. The final game of the season was a 47-21 loss to Samford.

Mercer coach Bobby Lamb said in a press release, "This will be a great opportunity to test ourselves against a championship program in one of the most storied game day environments in the country."

The Tide has a 2-0 record against the Mercer Bears. Bama won both games by identical 20-0 scores in 1939 and 1940.

RILEY COLE, a June linebacker commit to Alabama football this past June has announced his decommitment from UA via his Twitter account. Cole, 6' 3" 224-pounds, stated that he had talked with Alabama and it had been suggested he take a "gray shirt" for the upcoming season. He said that when questioned answers were evasive.

Cole committed to the Crimson Tide over offers from in-state South Alabama as well as the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. He recently took an official visit to the Capstone. He was named linebacker MVP at the Atlanta Opening Regional

The Sunday announcement now leaves the Crimson Tide with 16 commitments to play football heading into Wednesday's National Signing Day. Now that Cole, as well as JAQUAN YULEE, have decommited there are no linebackers for the 2016 class set to sign.

Cole said that he was going to find a team that would value him as a player.

Will Gordo Linebacker Prospect Ben Davis Win Up At UA?

AL.com is reporting that linebacker prospect BEN DAVIS had listed the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs as his top two going into Wednesday's National Signing Day. The news organization said things changed after he took his visit to Auburn. Now it's a three-way split as far as his interests are concerned, with others in the mix as well.

Davis is reported to have commented that he now really does not have a "leader" for his services. There's his "top three" listed above, but also being considered are LSU and Notre Dame.

The five-star prospect is the son of former Crimson Tide standout Wayne Davis and most believe he will eventually choose the Tide. However, the young Davis says he's still unsure which school he'll choose. His announcement is expected at 9 a.m. CT at Gordo High School.

It appears it was academics that has impressed Davis, saying he likes what Auburn has to offer. Davis also says he believes he is ready to play right away, and wants to be an All-American as a freshman.
