Alabama head football coach Nick Saban is no stranger to accolades. Once again Saban has been named to the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year watch list. Saban won that same award last year.

Watch lists will continue to be announced throughout the summer for each college football award. The lone exception is for the Heisman Trophy.

Saban joins Ryan Kelly, Jonathan Allen, Derrick Henry, O.J. Howard, Reggie Ragland, A'Shawn Robinson, Jarran Reed, Cam Robinson, and J.K. Scott on watch lists.

A.J. McCarron Remembers Kenny Stabler

"The greatest quarterback to ever put on the crimson and white," is what former Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron said about the late Kenny "Snake" Stabler  in a live interview this past week on Tide 99.1 FM. High praise indeed coming from a record-setting quarterback himself. Add to that other great quarterbacks to play at Bama, like Joe Willie "Broadway Joe" Namath and Bart Starr, and he said a mouthful.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback and former Tide QB McCarron said, "In my eyes, it's just my opinion, but I think he's the greatest quarterback to ever put on the crimson and white and play on Saturdays for the University of Alabama. Just electrifying. I used to love watching old film on him."

Of course, there is a Stabler-McCarron connection. It seems that Stabler dated McCarron's grandmother when the two were in high school in Foley. In fact, McCarron said that the two of them had planned to get married before calling the wedding off.

McCarron said that every time he saw him, "...we always messed with him and brought it up. He always asked how my grandmother was doing and how my grandfather was doing because he know everybody in my family. He used to come back to the Mobile International Speedway back home and go to the races all the time, and we would always sit together. Whenever he was in town, he'd sit with the rest of the family. And it's just, like I said, a sad day."

5-Star DT Rashard Lawrence Says Bama In Mix

6' 3", 305-pound defensive tackle prospect Rashard Lawrence says that one school heavily in the mix for his leaders as to where to play football after high school is the University of Alabama.  The five-star out of Neville, Louisiana also took the time to clear up the "rumors" that LSU was a lock for his services. He says that LSU is not the favorite. In fact, he says he really doesn't have any top schools right now.

Lawrence has more than 20 college offers currently, and says he is considering every single school that's recruiting him. He has made several visits to the Capstone, and says he is planning a return visit this summer. He also said he hears from Bama every day.

He did say that LSU was in the mix because they were close to home and continued to recruit him heavily. But he also said the Louisiana connections have him looking hard at Alabama. Bama currently has Louisiana natives Denzel Devall, Hootie Jones, Cam Sims, and Cam Robinson on the roster.

Lawrence plans to announce prior to National Signing Day after his senior season.
